Sylvan Historical Society The Sylvan Historical Society maintains Yesterday House Museum, Depot & Spillman Double Arch Bridge

05/31/2026

The Yesterday House Museum and the new Farm Heritage Museum in Sylvan Grove will both be open today, Sunday, May 31, from 1-5 pm.

Approximately 165 people toured the facility last weekend! Amazed at how many local people stated they had NEVER been in the museum before! It's worth your time to see what's inside. Will be open every Sunday through June.

NEW THIS WEEK: 1963 Sylvan Grove-Lincoln County Fair Poster featuring Buss Carson's Hollywood Golden Horses Stuntcapade donated by Richard Ancell.

Lois Gier Rosette Flats Doll Collection.

Heirloom quilts donated by Bonnie Buzick.

AND vintage overalls worn by Louis Persigehl and donated by Dan Cheney - last worn by Dan at the 2026 Bank Robbery Reenactment.

It's too wet to plow and we can't dance, so stop by the Museum and say Hi!

And...The new Farm Heritage Museum opens on Saturday for the first time! It is located in the metal building attached to the east side of Yesterday House Museum. Stop in 1-5 pm and view our new displays of farm machinery and art.

150 SYLVAN GROVE FAST FACTS (15 of 15)

Well, here we are at the end of the 150 Historic Facts trail. The 2020’s were punctuated by the Covid-19 epidemic that started the decade and will not soon be forgotten. Quarantines and business closures are now a thing of the past, but our sympathies will always lie with local families who lost loved ones during this strange and difficult time.

I hope you have enjoyed reading about the progression of historic Sylvan Grove, from little settlement by the river to a new town that has been, and always will be, Home Sweet Home for many of us. Here are the highlights for the 2020’s, to date:

#141 2020: In February, 13 inches of snow was reported in Sylvan Grove.

#142 2020: COVID-19 Lockdown March 20; school was conducted on-line, businesses and churches adapted.

#143 2021: December 15 - Violent winds caused electrical blackouts, fires and widespread damage in the area.

#144 2021: Fly Boy Brewery & Eats changed ownership but continued operating under the same name.

#145 2022: Seventeen downtown buildings were named to the Historic District by the Kansas State Historical Society.

#146 2023: Sylvan-Lucas Unified High School captures Speech & Drama 1A State Championship.

#147 2024: Big Kansas Road Trip brought many visitors to Sylvan to see its many attractions and buildings.

#148 2024: Bethlehem Lutheran Church installed carillon system that plays chimes heard throughout town during the day.

#149 2025: Renovated former Farmers Elevator building opened as the new Sylvan Senior Center and Elevator Warehouse.

#150 2026: Happy 150th Birthday, Sylvan Grove!! May 23 you'll want to be in town for the Parade at 10 am followed by a bank robbery re-enactment, car show, stone cutting demo, Depot & Museum open, music and many other events are planned. A trolley will be running from the Fairgrounds to City Park for your convenience. And don’t forget FOOD! Legion burgers and food trucks await! Alumni gathering, plus a Dance in the evening! See you there!
