Last night at the council meeting, the City Council members gave final approval for me to begin the museum update process.

When I became Director of the Comer Museum, I had a long list of updates to tackle right away. I had to learn to be patient and trust that it would all come in time.

That was 4 ½ years ago, and I am pleased with where we are now. Looking back, it’s crazy to see how far we’ve come.

We've made most of the updates without interrupting our daily hours. By rotating our exhibits regularly, we were able to offer ongoing community interest and engagement. Guests have had the opportunity to explore the heritage of our remarkable small town.

Now let me tell you what the future holds for us. Unfortunately, we will have to close to complete the next phase of our updates. We will have to gut and replace the drywall on 2 floors of the museum due to water damage when the roof leaked for many years. Since the roof has been replaced and the building's waterproofing has been completed, this marks the next phase in our efforts to elevate the museum visitor experience. During this time the HVAC system will also be replaced and updated.

These updates are made possible by grants, private donations, and city council backing. As well as the bond money that was approved for the museum in 2024.

We will be closed from October 31 through January 4,2027. Thank you for your patience while we renovate; we cannot wait to share our upgraded museum with you.
