Some people say I’m from the swamps. And then they say yeah I’m from Okeechobee. Well folks, Okeechobee is a big city compared to where I’m from. Yes, I was born in Coral Gables, which is a suburb in Miami, but I was also raised in the Everglades. What you’re seeing below in the photo is where I spent many of my formative years. 62 miles to school 62 miles to the grocery store , 62 miles to any type of civilization whatsoever. When I was a kid, I thought this was very boring. As a 68 almost 69-year-old man I would give just about anything to relive those years. That’s why I write stories for Brevard Live magazine about the Everglades, Sweetwater, and Miami in the 60s in the 70s. In retrospect, I believe that I had the best of both worlds.
