Sunderland’s 5th Post Office

The post office was relocated to Sanborn Grocery at 75 South Main Street in 1965. At the time it moved, there had been a grocery at this location since the early 1900’s.

Sunderland’s 4th Post Office

On November 1, 1914, the post office was relocated to 116 North Main Street in the brown, one story building to the left of the old Town Hall (where the Blue Heron is located today).

The building was owned by Ira A. Hoxie and the post office remained in this building until August 9, 1953.

In 1974, this building became Dimo’s Restaurant, which many will recall. Dimo’s was open for more than 35 years.

REPOSTING.......

Sunderland's Buttonball is the LARGEST tree in Massachusetts based on DCR measurements of 5/27/2017. The DCR gives it the most Champion Points of any tree in Massachusetts at 456.48.

In 2017: Height 113 feet. Circumference 309.60 inches. Spread 135.5 feet.

In 2003: Height 114.4 feet. Circumference 298.12 inches. Spread 143 feet.

Correction: The next tree with the most points is a Linden Tree in Sandwich and not the Eastern Cottonwood located in Pittsfield as previously posted.

The DCR measures trees about every 10 years. So the Buttonball is due next year.
