Mickey Williams Studio

Mickey Williams Studio Daily by chance or appointment.1820 Middle St. Sullivans Island SC 29464 Williams was born in 1961 in Anchorage, Alaska. Pleasant. A. B.

At ten his family moved to the Isle of Palms, at a time when most of the island remained undeveloped and unspoiled. His interest in art dates from his childhood and although he won many awards in high school, he earned his college degree from the University of South Carolina in Government and International Studies. Six years after graduating from college, while working in the restaurant business,

Williams started painting again and quickly realized that this would be his life's path. Williams is a self-taught artist who learned his craft from studying art in books and museums. His work is inspired by the spiritual and romantic beauty of the lowcountry that he fell in love with as a child. Today Mickey lives with his wife and three children in Mt. I paint the air, the land and the water that surround me. I have always felt a deep emotional and spiritual bond with nature and feel blessed to live and work in an area that is so inspiring to the mind and soul. My landscape paintings are visual interpretations of what I see with my eyes and my heart. I attempt with every painting to draw a parallel connection between nature and personal experience. His current work focuses on not only the Ace Basin but surrounding barrier islands and wetlands as well. The Ashepoo, Combahee, and Edisto Rivers empty into a vast area of wetlands resulting in one of the world's most pristine estuaries. Mickey is currently focusing on the coast and it's erosion and ever changing form. His work is also included in permanent collections, including the Medical University of South Carolina, Roper Hospital, the University of South Carolina at Sumter, Cox Enterprises, Atlanta Georgia and The Department of Commerce Columbia SC in the Commerce Secretary's office and the office of the former United States Ambassador to Tanzania. This is the Thursday report from Mayberry by the sea…Max is a happy dog because he follows the light… as the sun spot moves across the floor he is Johnny on The Spot.. if we take a lesson from this and stay in the light then we won’t live in darkness..I spoke with a famous writer the other day in the aisles of Publix.. I told her that when I work in my studio I tend to be reclusive but every day I make my trip across the marsh and go to Publix..I do this to get my people fix and always see people I know … upon entering I always smell the fresh bread baking and it feels like home and as I walk around I seek out those that radiate light from within..I usually enter to find one or two items and leave 45 minutes later after numerous interactions and conversations … the secret to happiness is being connected to good people and following the light ..

This is the Sunday afternoon report from Hollywood by the Stono River… Saturday was a good day for me..I was a co conspirator in a plot to bring happiness to a very loved mother and wife from her awesome husband.. I used to be very shy and always too anxious to present my work to clients.. I have grown out of this box and now enjoy making the connection to those who desire a painting of mine.. the plot was to casually walk up and sit down at a booth at Sullivans Fish Camp and surprise an unsuspecting wife who had no clue what was about to happen.. her gift was a painting by me from her husband.. my gift was making new friends and the experience of seeing the joy that it brought..nothing is more rewarding and gratifying than seeing all those years of hard work to become an artist pay off by moments like this.. it justifies the countless hours that go into every painting and at the same time I am humbled by the validation that I have done something that is so appreciated … Sunday.. the day started when the blue glow of dawn etched the tree silhouettes from the dark.. Canadian geese honking as they flew over the towering oaks and pines that surround the house.. a soft breeze rustling through the leaves .. the distant sound of The Norfolk Southern train sounding off in the distance as the first warm ambient rays of the rising Sun lights up the forest in a brilliant display of vibrant green .. a symphony of birds singing .. my thoughts were.. I need a pamper Me day..picture this.. a beautiful fall day.. The Hanahan Ampitheater.. a band that I have always loved The Archetypes being inducted into The Lowcountry Hall of Fame.. a dog named Max that went from Sh*tzu to wildcat caught in a snare when the band played its first number.. breaking free from the harness and bolting like a lightning bolt through the crowd who tried their best to catch him.. he faked left and went right with the dexterity of a lizard. Running through the arms and legs of anyone in his way .. I finally caught up with him and we made our way through the crowd and out of the park.. listening to the Archetypes play their songs .. in other words..a perfect day

This is the report from Hollywood by the Stono River.. I have this sixth sense that alerts me before things happen.. when I listen it saves me.. when I ignore it I pay a price and I always regret it.. moments before this disaster happened my intuition told me to move two paintings that I had just mounted into their frames before I ship them to Florida and their new home.. there is a long labor intensive process that takes place to produce a painting.. order the frames. Mount the frames ..then ship them.. they both were laying flat on the floor .. a random memory suddenly crosses my mind about a man who wandered into my studio years ago.. he wants to give me advice about how to make my paintings better.. he is behind me talking on and on ..I am painting getting slightly annoyed with the fact that he keeps sticking his head in between me and the painting I was working on so I shoot him a look to back off.... he walks behind me keeping up his long winded dialogue about how I should paint ducks .. and barns into every painting he looks at.. I get a weird feeling and turn around only to find him standing on top of a painting I had laid flat on the floor .. he is totally oblivious to this as he begins his next suggestion about painting in a barn with two shotguns and duck decoys .. I yell at him .. he quickly leaves..today my gut tells me to move these two paintings to safely .. I listen to my intuition and do it immediately and avoid disaster .. moments later this shelf collapses sending black paint everywhere .. lesson learned ..always listen to your gut feelings and never ignore your intuition .. they are there to protect you

I just came across my report card and it makes me laugh every time I see it.. I don’t deny that I was a handful in the class.. but the way my teachers treated me made the biggest difference in the way I behaved.. to this day I am not much different… if people speak to me in a respectful way I respond by being the best version of myself..Mrs Henderson was my teacher back then.. she was screechy and overbearing and domineering .. at first I tried to get along with her but there came a point that I stopped trying .. people may not always remember the things that you do but they will always remember the way you make them feel .

This is the report from Hollywood by the Stono…soul food is comfort for the soul…and if it’s prepared and cooked by someone with soul it will be the best fried chicken you ever eat… years ago after spilling 15drinks onto the table where actor Henry Winkler sat with 14 members of his entourage sending them scattering to avoid the flying broken glass and liquid.. he asked me 2 questions .. to break the ice.. pun intended..who is your governor.. still flushed I answered Carroll O’Conner ..aka.. Archie Bunker.. instead of Carroll Campbell .. the next question.. where do we go to get good fried chicken.. o could have mentioned a dozen high restaurants who offered fried chicken that missed the mark a premium price .. instead I answered The Piggly Wiggly.. he asked why?… I answered …it’s was simple and seasoned right and cooked by people with soul in their soul..after driving through the gauntlet to the island I was reminded why I come here… there is always gifts at my back door .. yesterday it was two hats from the fire department … a visit from Anna Tradd and Susannah .. a family that visits the island every summer.. the kids each grew three inches since I last saw them and they say that changed is the most constant thing in life.. this is a type of change I can relate to.. seeing two great kids grow into the people they will become… the empty lot across the street is the change I don’t like to see.. another iconic Sullivans island beach house with its beautiful overgrown lush garden is leveled to make way for a new house that I’m sure will be beautiful but a sign of changing times and what is lost in the process.. I left the island feeling a bit melancholic .. I needed comfort food.. I drove to The Pig and ordered three chicken legs .. two for me… and one for Rufus the raccoon that visits every night…

This is the Tuesday midday report from The Holy City otherwise known as Charleston South Carolina… today the air is humid and hot and it is impossible to walk the street without your clothes sticking to you like wet gauze .. summer has arrived with a vengeance .. yesterday it was very pleasant .. today it Mother Nature is blowing a hair dryer over all of humanity and I am sweating like a politician at a town hall meeting.. but I digress.. today is a day to celebrate the very existence of my two daughters who birthdays are the 11th and 19th… so we ate at Shiki for lunch and I have to say my tastebuds are doing a dance .. shangri-la on a plate …. Frances turns 35 this month and Reilly turns 30… it seems like only yesterday they were two little squirts .. I have to say I take great pride in the fact that they both grew up to be really fine sun beams of happiness ..I love my adult relationship with them and in some ways they are more mature than I am.. why?… because when I turned 50 twelve years ago I started to grow down.. I grew down to get back in touch with my inner child and reclaimed that joyful feeling that life had a way of eroding over a long period of time and experience.. Happy birthday to two great human beings .. you make me so proud to be your father …
