Our museum features exciting train rides, engaging tours, and premier events for all ages. Our mission is to preserve the regional heritage of electric railway transportation as a living resource for the benefit of present and future generations. We offer our visitors:
• A rare opportunity to ride historic streetcars and interurban electric trains from all over California and other western states

•A chance to experience a piece of history through our permanent and revolving exhibitions within Cameron Hall, a grand railroad station style exhibit hall
•A trip back in time with a tour of our collection of historic trains in Car House One
•Access to our impressive and growing collections within the F.M. Smith Memorial Library and Association Archives
•Time to relax with family and friends by picnicking in our park
•A way to bring the museum home through the items available in our Museum Store

A journey like no other is coming to Rio Vista Junction.

Coffee & Caboose starts the moment you board a vintage train at the Western Railway Museum -- part history ride, part behind-the-scenes tour, and part specialty coffee tasting inside a restored Pullman car. Four coffees, each traced back to the actual farm and farmer who grew it.

We won't spoil the rest. Just know it's worth the drive to Rio Vista Junction.

This is the inaugural run. Twenty seats, one Sunday morning.

The intersection of X St. & Alhambra Blvd. in Sacramento isn't much today. But 80 years ago, it was a small railyard!

From 1910 to 1947, Central California Traction Co. interurbans and streetcars were stored here. It was small; a carbarn, platform, and various tool sheds. But, it was all the CCT needed!

Though the yard was demolished in 1954, a piece of it [technically] lives on in the form of CCT #7 (seen below)! Preserved in running order, over Showcase Weekend museum members can operate this historic piece of California history!

For the first time in years, Key System #1001 will lead caboose rides! This historic 110-year old steeplecab once pulled President Taft's train into Oakland. On Showcase Weekend, ride in style aboard a real caboose, pulled by this seldom seen train!
