Air Classics Museum of Aviation

Air Classics Museum of Aviation The Air Classics Museum of Aviation is a volunteer-run aviation museum located at the west end of the Aurora Municipal Airport (KARR) in Sugar Grove, Illinois.

We are open from 10:00AM till 3:00PM Saturday and Sunday April 5, 2025 till November 23, 2025. It is our mission to chronicle and preserve the critical role aviation has played throughout history and share this valuable information to the public through our unique exhibits, educational programs, and flight operations. Our collection includes aircraft, vehicles, uniforms and other aviation memorabi

lia from the 1930s to the present time. Volunteer veterans offer guided tours of the aircraft located on-site and visitors are encouraged to sit in an A-7 flown in the Gulf War, as well as climb into the pilot's seat of an UH-1 Huey helicopter.

On this day in 1940, the first prototype of the Curtiss SB2C Helldiver made its first flight. Interestingly, the Navy had broken with protocol and ordered 370 SB2Cs from Curtiss in November 1940 before the first prototype had flown. Learn why: https://s.si.edu/4jaQrM4

Ready, set, race! The Laird-Turner RT-14 Meteor you see here is a replica honoring the 1930s air racer.

The original flew just 30 hours before retiring, yet in that brief time it captured the Thompson Trophy in 1938 and 1939.

Meet the Stampe SV-4E, a biplane inspired by the de Havilland Tiger Moth.

Owned by Victor Reuter, who has been fascinated with the Stampe since his flight training days, this aircraft retains its vintage charm while featuring several modern upgrades from the restoration process.
