Last week, we were honored to welcome Jonny Daniels to Cafe Europa to meet with members of our local Holocaust survivor community. Jonny assisted the survivors in participating in the Survivor Torah Project. https://www.survivortorah.org/

The story of the The Survivor Torah Project begins when one remarkable Torah was entrusted to Polish shepherds by their Orthodox Jewish neighbors before they were deported to Treblinka. For decades, the scroll remained hidden inside a family's home. Although much of it was tragically damaged over the years, it was eventually discovered by volunteers from the organization From the Depths. https://ftd.foundation/

Today, Holocaust survivors are helping restore the Torah letter by letter, transforming a symbol of devastation into one of renewal. Their work fulfills the hope of those who entrusted the scroll to safekeeping and serves as a testament to the resilience of the Jewish people.

We are deeply grateful to Jonny for bringing the Survivor Torah to Cafe Europa and to the survivors participation in this meaningful project.

Yesterday, the Holocaust Museum & Center for Tolerance and Education had the privilege of welcoming Jonny Daniels to the Museum.
Jonny is a renowned media personality, former IDF paratrooper, former Chief of Staff to Members of the Knesset, and founder of From the Depths, an international organization dedicated to Holocaust remembrance and education, supporting Holocaust survivors, and honoring the Righteous Among the Nations.

During his visit, Jonny toured the Museum and reflected on the impact of our exhibits and survivor testimonies. We were proud to share stories of the thousands of students who visit the Museum each year and learn the lessons of the Holocaust. We also had the opportunity to hear about Jonny’s ongoing and upcoming projects and benefit from his invaluable insights on Holocaust education, remembrance, and combating antisemitism.
We are deeply grateful for Jonny’s visit and for the time, knowledge, and inspiration he shared with our staff.

Following his Museum tour, we were honored to introduce Jonny to members of our local Holocaust survivor community at Café Europa, where they were introduced to the Survivor Torah. Photos and additional details from this meaningful gathering will be shared soon.

Thank you for hosting us, Titusville Intermediate School, and our presentation "Speak Up!"

On Tuesday, our educators spoke with Titusville's fourth graders, introducing them to the idea of moral courage—standing up for what is right, even when it feels hard. Through discussion, storytelling, and art, students explore their own values and learn how words and actions can make a difference.

HMCTE left Titusville students feeling empowered to recognize fairness, include others, and use their voices with empathy and respect.

HMCTE was honored to welcome students and parents Temple Beth Sholom to participate in the Moral Courage Workshop and Museum Experience.

Together, they learned about individuals who made difficult choices in the face of fear and injustice, and how acts of courage—both large and small—can make a profound difference. Experiencing this as a community, across generations, made the lessons especially meaningful.

We were grateful for the opportunity to encourage students and families to carry the values of moral courage, responsibility, and compassion into their own lives.

We were honored to welcome students from Pearl River High School's BOCES program to participate in a meaningful workshop on Resistance and Resilience during the Holocaust.

Through powerful stories and discussions, students learned not only about the atrocities of the Holocaust, but also about the courage, strength, and acts of resistance that people demonstrated in the face of unimaginable hardship.

We had a wonderful Chanukah celebration this month at Cafe Europa. 8th graders from ASHAR joined our Holocaust survivors to assist them in preparing Chanukah cookies. A joyful time was had by all.
