The Holocaust Museum & Center for Tolerance and Education (HMCTE) mourns the passing of President Jimmy Carter and honors his profound legacy in Holocaust education and remembrance. His visionary leadership in establishing the United States Holocaust Memorial Council created a lasting foundation for preserving the memory of the Holocaust and its lessons for future generations. President Carter’s lifelong commitment to human rights, his dedication to combating antisemitism, and his unwavering belief in justice and tolerance continue to inspire our work. We are deeply grateful for his contributions to ensuring that the horrors of the past are never forgotten. May his memory be a blessing.

I had the incredible honor of meeting Mosab Hassan Yousef, author of Son of Hamas and the son of a Hamas co-founder. His story exposes how terrorist groups/army's indoctrinate with hate. I urge you to read his book for a deeper understanding. Stay tuned for exciting updates—HMCTE is working to bring him to our community for an event, or a conversation on our a new podcast which will launch in 2025.

Yesterday at HMCTE, we had the privilege of hosting the Weisman family, whose family story was depicted in the film Defiance.

The tour was deeply meaningful, as the entire family is so committed to Holocaust memory and education. We are truly grateful for the time they dedicated, especially during the holiday season, to visit the Museum. Their presence and ongoing support of our work are invaluable, and we deeply cherish our relationship with them.

Thank you, Weisman family and friends for your dedication and for sharing this meaningful time with us.

In the spirit of Thanksgiving, we would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to our valued education partners for granting HMCTE the distinct privilege of working with your students. Your unwavering support and inspiring leadership make our work not only possible but profoundly meaningful.

During our Moral Courage workshop, your students explored stories of those who stood up during the Holocaust, reflecting on the qualities required to be an upstander. This powerful experience fosters empathy and a sense of responsibility, encouraging students to carry these lessons beyond the classroom.

During the Museum Experience, your students participated in experiential learning, promoting critical thinking about the past and how those lessons can shape a more compassionate and courageous world today. We firmly believe that these lessons will transcend the walls of the Museum and your classrooms, making a lasting impact on your students and the broader community.

Thank you once again for this tremendous honor and privilege.
We wish you and your loved ones a Happy Thanksgiving filled with warmth, gratitude, and joy.

David Harris warned us that intelligent people, including respected figures like Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Walter Duranty, underestimated the N**i Party. Harris cautioned that today we should not make the same mistake with Iran, a nation whose doctrine explicitly calls for "Death to Israel" and "Death to America." In his time, Duranty claimed that "Germany wants peace," reflecting a broader misjudgment among Western journalists and political figures who believed Hitler’s ambitions could be appeased. This underestimation delayed a true understanding of the N**i threat—an error we cannot afford to repeat with Iran.

On Veterans Day, we honor the memory of Alan Moskin, a man of blessed memory whose service and bravery left an indelible mark on history. Alan was a Jewish American soldier who fought in Europe during World War II. As a member of the 66th Infantry, he was part of the heroic Allied forces that liberated concentration camps, including Gunskirchen, a subcamp of Mauthausen, in 1945.

As we drift into sleep or rise to greet the day, we find ourselves deeply shaken by the events that have unfolded in Amsterdam—a pogrom that, just days before the commemoration of Kristallnacht, reopens wounds we had hoped were consigned to history.

Kristallnacht, the night of broken glass, the horrific pogrom of November 1938, echoes hauntingly now as we ask ourselves: how can such darkness resurface in 2024, a full 86 years after we vowed, “Never Again”? For Jewish people and allies alike, this is a profound moment of grief and bewilderment, a painful reminder of that unity and courage must endure.
