Today we celebrate a milestone with our friends at the Door County Maritime Museum & Lighthouse Preservation Society, Inc.! 🎉

The newly renovated Peterson Legacy Gallery officially opens this morning with a ribbon cutting at 11:30 am—and we are thrilled to be a part of it. The Miller Art Museum is proud to partner with DCMM in presenting 'Beside the Lake, Beneath the Wind,' their inaugural exhibition in the space. Featuring more than 40 paintings and drawings by Sturgeon Bay's own Gerhard CF Miller, the exhibition pairs his nautical work with artifacts from the DCMM collection—a pairing that feels as natural as the waters that inspired it.

Make a day of it—visit the DCMM to experience ‘Beside the Lake, Beneath the Wind,’ then head across the Steel Bridge to the Miller, where five current exhibits await inside the museum Gerhard and his wife Ruth built as their legacy to our community. Two stops, an extraordinary artist, one great city.

📍 Door County Maritime Museum | 120 N. Madison Avenue, Sturgeon Bay
📍 Miller Art Museum | 107 S. 4th Avenue, Sturgeon Bay
🕘 Both open daily | DCMM: 9 am - 5 pm | Miller: 10 am – 5 pm; 10 am – 7 pm Mondays
🎟️ Exhibition admission included with DCMM entry | Miller Art Museum admission is free

Congratulations to the entire DCMM team—we are honored to share this moment with you! ✨

📣 Calling all treasure-givers!📣

Our Art & Treasures Fundraiser opens May 30, and we need YOUR donations to make it happen!

This beloved annual event that benefits Door County's art museum is made entirely possible by the incredible generosity of our community. We invite you to consider donating original artwork, fine art reproductions, quality vintage and antique pieces, ceramics, sculpture, jewelry, art books, frames, fine household décor, and other thoughtfully chosen objects that need a new home or a second story.

To schedule a drop-off appointment, please call the museum office at (920) 746-0707, Monday through Friday between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. We kindly ask that all items be clean, in good condition, and contained in a bag or box. For details on accepted items, please visit https://tinyurl.com/zfhbv69e.

Every donated item—and every purchase—goes directly to supporting our work in our community. We are grateful, as always, for the remarkable generosity of our community!

In 1956, Abe and Ginka Cohn opened the Potter's Wheel Gallery in Fish Creek—Door County's very first pottery studio. What grew from that single studio helped shape the creative community we know today, from the founding of the Door County Potter's Guild to a thriving visual arts scene across the Peninsula.

The Peninsula Pulse takes a look at their lasting legacy. Read the full story by Tom Groenfeldt here: https://bit.ly/4cKo5GJ.

'Abraham Cohn | Maker's Mark' is on view now through May 23. Stop in and experience this legacy for yourself — admission is free!

Last chance to apply for 8 weeks of living and creating in one of the most unique artist residencies in the Midwest! There's still time—we haven’t closed the application window yet so if you’re thinking about applying, now is the time.

This fall, one Midwest artist will live and work at one of Door County's most iconic structures: the Dome House. Built into the sand dunes along the shores of Lake Michigan and nestled beside Whitefish Dunes State Park, this twin-domed concrete home was designed in 1978 by artist and printmaker Al Quinlan as a creative space.

The selected artist will have access to a private live/work space, dedicated studio and exhibit space, and all utilities + internet + stipend. In return, residents are given time and space to advance their work, and share their creative process with the community through workshops, open studios, artist talks, and other public programming.

The residency is open to emerging and mid-career artists residing in the Midwest working in drawing, painting, printmaking, and photography.

The program carries forward the vision of the Quinlan family and museum founder Gerhard Miller of connecting artists and community through the power of place. 🏡

What a night! ✨

The 52nd Annual Salon of Door County High School Art opened Monday evening to a packed house—our galleries full of students, families, teachers, neighbors, and friends. It was and remains, as our Executive Director said from the podium, one of our favorite evenings of the year.

Congratulations to all participants! We are so proud to share this work with our community, and grateful for the teachers—Nicole Herbst, Melanie Jones, Klayton Kindt, Billie Moore, and Emily Salm—who make it all possible. They show up every day and do the steady, patient work of helping their students find their voices.

Huge thanks to our generous sponsors who made this year’s exhibition possible:
🌟 Presenting Sponsors: Dennis and Bonnie Connolly, and Hermke and Elke Timm.
🌟 Supporting Sponsors: John and Kathy Campbell, Chris Cramer in memory of Tricia Cramer, the Jacksonport Women’s Club, Nicolet Bank, Barb and Mike Madden, PenArt, and the Scholz Family in memory of Ruth Scholz.

Additional funding provided by the Wisconsin Arts Board with funds from the State of Wisconsin and the National Endowment for the Arts.

If you weren't able to make it Monday, don't worry—the exhibit is up through Saturday, May 23, 2026, and it is absolutely worth the visit. Free, as always, and open to everyone. We think you'll be pretty amazed. 🎨
