🍿 Jolly Time Pop Corn: A little taste of Iowa history, wrapped in nostalgia. 🌽❤️

Long before movie nights meant microwavable bags and streaming marathons, popcorn was a simple American favorite. And in Sioux City, Iowa, a little popcorn company began a story that would last for generations.

Jolly Time traces its roots back to 1914, when Cloid H. Smith started making popcorn a family business. What began in Iowa grew into a familiar name in American homes, bringing people together over a bowl of warm, freshly popped kernels.

Picture an old Iowa grocery store, wooden shelves lined with paper bags, a neighborhood market where the shopkeeper knew your name, and families bringing home popcorn for a Saturday night treat. No fancy packaging. No complicated ingredients. Just a simple snack and memories that stayed long after the bowl was empty. 🏡

That’s what makes old Iowa products so special. They’re more than things you bought at the store. They’re little pieces of local history, reminders of simpler days, and stories passed down from one generation to the next.

🚨 FINAL WEEK! THE GERMS ARE WINNING, PEOPLE!🚨

Somewhere right now, a kid is sneezing directly into their teacher's face, another is licking a desk, and someone just wiped their nose on their sleeve.

Our teachers are in the trenches, and they need backup!

We've made it to the FINAL WEEK of our Stock the Teachers Drive, and we're making one last push to arm our classrooms with the essentials:

🧻 Tissues – Because sleeves are NOT an acceptable alternative.

🧼 Disinfecting Wipes – For desks, doorknobs, and whatever that sticky stuff is.

🫧 Hand Sanitizer – Because "Did you wash your hands?" is apparently a trick question.

📅 October 16th is the LAST DAY to donate!

📍 Drop-off locations are listed on the flyer!

Best part? Donations collected in each town stay local and go to that community's school district!

Our teachers already deserve medals for what they deal with daily. The least we can do is send them into germ season with some supplies!

Wreath and Porch Pot Workshop

Iowa State University (ISU) Extension of Buena Vista County, Buena Vista County Conservation, and Buena Vista County Women, Land and Legacy Group is hosting a holiday wreath making and spruce tip porch pot workshop on November 9th. This workshop will be held at 6:00 p.m. at the Buena Vista County Extension Office, 701 Seneca Street, Storm Lake, IA.

“Please join us as we kickoff the Holiday season with a fun evening of crafting evergreen wreaths or spruce tip pots,” said Stacie Hewett, Buena Vista County Program Coordinator with ISU Extension and Outreach.

Registration is required due to limited space and for supplies. The cost is $10 per wreath or $20 per pot. The registration fee covers all materials needed for each participant to craft their own holiday evergreen wreath or spruce tip pot. You may bring your own decorations to add to your creation, but no outside pots will be allowed.

“Whether you want a wreath for your door or a pot to set on your porch, the workshop is open to everyone,” Hewett said. “If you’ve never made a wreath or spruce tip pot, Katie Struss and I will be on hand to help you.”

BVU Volleyball went back on the road Friday night to play in the Crown College Triangular, and following a pair of 3-0 sweeps, the Beavers are the lone remaining unbeaten team in DIII at 16-0.
