Stockton Heritage Museum VOLUNTEERS! You are the best!

If you have been a volunteer, in any capacity, please join us for a special get-together Saturday, October 31st at 9am before we open. We will have coffee and pastries and a wrap up from Pauline.

We are hoping all of you can join us and celebrate a job well done. The Museum could not stay open without your hard work. This will be our last weekend open so be sure to come.

If you have ideas for next season, please bring them to share. See you then!

Come on down to ACE Hardware today for a BURGER or BRAT lunch! The Museum is having its final fundraiser of the summer. Our board members will be there to serve up a delicious and affordable lunch for your whole family. Then stroll over to the Museum to see the displays and watch the train run. 11 til people stop coming. Thanks ACE! See you there!

Thanks to everyone who came to see our trains yesterday. We hope you had fun. We would like to make this an annual event so look forward to seeing you next year. Are there any activities you would like to see in the future?

If anyone got the bug to help landscape our layout, please let us know. We will be continuing the work through the winter.

TRAIN DAY FOR KIDS OF ALL AGES! The Stockton Heritage Museum will be showing off the progress of the Chicago Great Western Railroad layout next Saturday, September 19th.

We will have activities and giveaways for the kids. Parents, bring in your kids of all ages for coloring, I Spy, free stickers and tattoos. If it's nice, we might have sidewalk chalk art opportunities. The trains will be running and Nathan will be there to show the kids how it works.

We just wanted to give kids a chance to watch the trains, do some fun stuff and enjoy something that used to be a big part of Stockton.

Of course adults are invited! You might even decide to help out with the next stage of working on scenery and farmland this winter.

A project that the Museum has had on the backburner for a few years, is documenting all of the occupants of each building downtown. Let's start with this one. This bank building stands on the corner of S. Main and E. Queen. Built in 1890 by P. M. Rindesbacher who was born in Stockton Township in 1858. He started his banking enterprise in 1887.

The building housed the Plum River Masonic Lodge from 1891 to 1913. The Post Office was there from 1932 to 1958.

It later became apartments owned by Eugene and Gloria Althof and Greg and Mary Althof.

What else do any of you know of the history of this building? Other owners, stories of tenants, anything we can add to the file. Thanks in advance.
