Located in the heart of historic downtown Stearns, KY the McCreary County Museum is housed in the old Stearns Coal and Lumber Company Corporate headquarters that was built in 1907. The Museum was founded in 1988 and we invite everyone to visit and explore our unique history. The Museum is filled with historic documents, objects, and photographs pertaining to McCreary County and the Stearns Coal &

Lumber Company. In addition to these exciting exhibits we have tried to show the culture and lifestyle of McCreary Countians over the years with social exhibits that include a sporting exhibit and musical exhibit. Our Museum overlooks the town of Stearns which features the Big South Fork Scenic Railway and local craft and gift shops.

McCreary County is preparing for a special celebration as “250 Years – Voices of McCreary Past and Present” comes to downtown Stearns on July 4, 2026! 🇺🇸

This community event will feature live music, food trucks, artisan demonstrations, vendors, historical displays, family-friendly activities, and more as we celebrate America’s 250th anniversary and the stories that make McCreary County unique.

We’re currently looking for:
• Vendors and food trucks
• Artisan demonstrators and makers
• Art submissions
• Essay submissions

Whether you want to showcase your business, share your creativity, or help tell the story of our community, we’d love for you to be part of this celebration.

Be part of “250 Years – Voices of McCreary Past and Present” on July 4, 2026 in downtown Stearns.

The celebration will include artisan demonstrations, craft vendors, food trucks, live entertainment, and family-friendly activities throughout the day as McCreary County joins the nationwide America 250 celebration.

We’re inviting local vendors, makers, and small businesses to join us for this exciting community event and help create a memorable celebration for visitors and residents alike.

What does McCreary County mean to you? 🇺🇸

As part of the “250 Years – Voices of McCreary Past and Present” celebration, community members of all ages are invited to submit artwork and essays highlighting the history, heritage, beauty, and spirit of our community.

This is a chance to share your perspective, creativity, and voice as McCreary County takes part in America’s 250th anniversary celebration. Selected pieces will help tell the story of our county — past and present — during this special July 4th event in Stearns.

Whether you paint, draw, write, or create in your own unique way, we encourage you to participate!
