Civic Season is in full bloom and we're excited to bring you more opportunities to get civically engaged!

On Saturday, June 27, join us for our Second Annual Civics in the Shade. Grab your friends, grab a FREE slice of pizza (from Staunton Flying Pizza), stay for the community conversations, make your own civics ZINE, and enjoy all the good vibes. Pizza is on a first-come, first-serve basis! We're also celebrating the nation's 250th birthday, so there's even more reason to celebrate.

Then on Saturday, July 4, after the parade, come by and celebrate the last day of Civic Season at the museum and commemorate Independence Day with special activities. Learn about the history of Uncle Sam and other American symbols that were popular in World War I, and design your own poster or button!

June 19, 1865, the day enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, were finally informed of their freedom, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. Also known as Freedom Day or Emancipation Day.

Commemorate Juneteenth with free, educational history tours exploring the lived experiences of the enslaved laborers who lived and worked in the birthplace.

Last week was a busy week for us!

Our Education Director, Emily Kilgore, led our second annual Future Presidents of America Leadership Camp all week long! The students had a week filled with incredible speakers, trips to Staunton City Hall, Staunton Fire Department, and the Virginia State Capitol in Richmond! With a special side quest to the train station, of course 🚂

Thank You for Joining Us!🫶

We are incredibly grateful to everyone who attended our Preview Party and the Grand Opening of Remember the Ladies, our newest temporary exhibit.

The evening began with opening remarks from our Museum Curator, Andrew Phillips, followed by insights from guest curator Whitney Robertson and artist Excellence Iseoluwa Olujide, who created a special piece exclusively for this exhibit. Both joined us for the ribbon-cutting ceremony, helping make the occasion even more memorable. Thank you to everyone who loaned material for this incredible exhibition!

Guests also had the opportunity to visit our education table, where our intern and volunteer shared information about the women's suffrage movement and engaged visitors in meaningful conversations about this important chapter of history.

A special thank you goes to our amazing community supporters whose contributions helped make this event possible. Your generosity and support continue to strengthen our mission and bring history to life for our community.

Fashion, Freedom, and the Fabric of a Nation 1776-2026 is a new exhibition that explores the stories, contributions, and legacy of women who shaped American history and the ongoing fight for equality.

Open House | 3:00–5:00 PM (Free Admission)

Whitney Robertson will be joining us and sharing a few remarks!

Visitors will also get the chance to explore our Suffrage Education Station and learn more about the movement that helped secure voting rights for women.

We hope you'll join us as we celebrate this incredible exhibit opening!
