HAPPY ANNIVERSARY ST. MARYS SUBMARINE MUSEUM!!
30 years ago today, 30 March 1996, many Submarine Veterans, Active Duty Sailors, invited guests, elected officials, Subase Kings Bay Leadership including RDML Chuck Beers, then GROUP Ten Commander, and two very special people who are no longer with us, the late Sheila McNeill, the Founding President of the Museum, and the late RADM Eugene Fluckey (USN-Ret), WWII Hero, Medal of Honor Recipient, and the Commissioning Speaker, gathered in front of the old St. Marys Movie Theater to open the doors for the first time of a dream that became a reality!
30 years old and going stronger than ever, under the Leadership of the Late John Crouse for our first 14 years followed by Keith Post who picked up the reins on John's untimely passing, the St. Marys Submarine Museum has continued to thrive becoming not only a great part of life in our community, but a cornerstone for events held jointly throughout the year with Subase Kings Bay and its tennant commands. From Boy Scouts to school children, to reenlistment ceremonies, changes of command, officer promotion ceremonies, to midshipmen in the summer, to our annual Submarine Veterans of WWII Memorial Week in November, the Museum has seen and done it all. And we are just getting started.
We are right now in the middle of our Capital Campaign to raise money for our new facility in the center of town thanks to the outstanding partnership we continue to have with the City of St. Marys. We will be in our new location co-located with City Hall in the Old Walmart shopping center, closer to the base, closer to I-95 and with parking out the gazoo.
Here's to the next 30 years, and with a BIG SHOUT out and thanks to all who made this dream a reality, and to all who have visited over these past 30 years, we THANK YOU . And to our partnership with the City of St. Marys, THANK YOU for believing in us, thank you for helping that dream come alive and flourish!
BRAZO ZULU To All!
