House of Observation

House of Observation Collect, Catalogue, Curate The House of Observation is an expanding collection curated by artist Rachel Sperry.

Participation is an important part of this collection because all of the items are sent from you. To be a part of this project simply send an item you wish for Rachel to observe. Any item will work for this process and they are all appreciated. Once Rachel receives them in the mail, she catalogues the objects on the project blog: http://houseofobservation.blogspot.com/ and observes/archives each a

rtifact by re-creating its image through drawing or printmaking, as well as hypothesizing the possible fictional meaning of each specimen.

“A curator’s job is an important one, for it is the curator who decides what belongs in the museum. The curator then must decide exactly how the objects will be displayed. In a way, anyone who collects things in the privacy of his own home is a curator. Simply choosing how to display your things, deciding what picture to hang where, and in which order you books belong, places you in the same category as a museum curator”

Quote from a quote: from the book WonderStruck by Brian Selznick

: the action or process of collecting someone or something.
Rachel Sperry, curator of the House, is currently thinking about what it means to collect detritus or quotidian items. What is the difference between something given away and something discarded?
