Meet Brownie Wise!

Tupperware has been a part of American homes for more than 75 years, but its success was due to more than just its functionality. Much of Tupperware’s success came from the innovative home-party sales method introduced by Brownie Wise.

Learn more about Brownie Wise and her legacy on September 12th at the opening of our new temporary exhibit, "Tupperware Roundup," and annual meeting!

Did you know that we have the original safe from First National Bank, which is now the St. Cloud Chamber of Commerce.
The safe was manufactured in 1902, making it older than the bank, which was not built until 1910.

The museum is open
Thursday, Friday and Saturday’s from 11a to 3p.

The First State Bank of Kenansville opened on May 15, 1915, with $15,000 in capital stock. It served as the financial anchor for the Osceola County cowtown named after Mary Lily Kenan, the third wife of railroad tycoon Henry Flagler. The bank closed during the Great Depression in the 1930s and later found new life as a local historical showcase.

The bank was the core financial hub for regional cattle barons, ranchers, and merchants financed major Old Florida livestock deals.

Kenansville Post Office

built in 1914 after Henry Flagler routed his railroad through the area and named the station after his third wife, Mary Lily Kenan Flagler. Measuring just 300 square feet, the tiny building served the rural cattle community for decades.

**A neat story told to me by Elaine Harvey which manages the Kenansville Schoolhouse Museum.

Rancher Bud Adams purchased the historic wooden structure in 1979 and relocated it to the Adams Ranch in Fort Pierce, Florida.

In 2005 The Adams Ranch donated the building back to Kenansville, where it was moved to a site adjacent to the town's historic red brick schoolhouse.

The post office sits on Canoe Creek road and can be visited during Museum.

The Heartbreak Hotel
Built in 1915 as the Piney Woods Inn, built by Wallace and Robert Phillips.
In 1955, Reverend James W. Webb bought the run-down building and renamed it "Heartbreak Hotel" to draw tourists, creating a persistent local legend that it inspired Elvis Presley's hit song.

The first floor featured a general store, kitchen, and dining room, while the second floor housed 12 guest rooms for travelers, hunters, and cattle buyers.
