The old bridge turned when two large keys were inserted and guys turned them to open and close the bridge. They came from the Diamond, or the bar, or got out of their cars if they needed to. What a great video of this part of history! :) Thank you to the Wanant Family!

Before there was Facebook, there was a section in the newspapers that stated what was going on locally.

The very first tidbit, is the passing of a 15 year old boy. You'll see further down, that he was not doing well that very morning. These newspapers were typeset, so, it was not easy to rearrange items like you can on the computer today. As each tidbit came in, it was typeset.

I suppose if you ran into someone, you could politely ask how their visit to Detroit was, or how did their company enjoy the visit?

The year was 1910, Al Bassett was one of the men who worked at Gliem Meat Market.

Please share!

In 1881 Charles A. Gliem emegrated from Germany, followed by his brother Simon and parents two years later. Without refrigeration, the market hustled daily to help feed the town, the ships, and the Oakland and Sommerville Hotels.

Please join us as we tell the story of the family and their involvement in so many lives in our town. THE best was the warm slice of bologna, fresh out of the smoker, that was given to the children when they stopped by.
As a special treat, Jeff Cook will recreate Gliem's recipe, so you can have that taste again.

If you are at an estate or garage sale, or in your parents house and find this style of salt cellars, they were from years ago, before salt shakers. The spoons are even rarer, but easy to identify.

Thursday evening at 7:00, Friday afternoon at 1:00.

Four seasons of Albert Schroeder and his friends lives . . .

It all started when Loretta Lukasak found a collection of negatives, and saved them from the dumpster. What an amazing find. Photographs from the late teens of the 1900's. The clothing is amazing. Research in old yearbooks matched the faces to names, which then were researched. The homes they lived in were found. Some of their futures were found. Please join us to view this amazing photo collection that we have at the museum.
