The Robertson County Historical Society was organized in 1968, with the museum opened in 1998, to the public, in the location of the former 1916 Springfield Post Office.

Our Then & Now series continues today, and this time, we’re featuring a place you might not expect: us! 🏛️

Before it was home to the Robertson County History Museum, our building at 124 W. 6th Avenue had a very different job. It was once the Springfield Post Office!

Construction began in 1913, and the building was completed in 1915. The Springfield Post Office served the community for nearly 50 years before relocating in 1964. Over the years, the building had several different uses before becoming home to the Robertson County History Museum in 1993.

Today, the same building that once handled mail, money orders, and registered packages is filled with artifacts, photographs, and stories that help preserve Robertson County’s history.

Talk about a building with a story to tell! From Springfield’s post office to the Robertson County History Museum, this building has played an important role in our community for more than a century.

Join us on Friday, September 4, from 6:00 to 8:30 PM for another First Friday Featherweight Funness at the Robertson County History Museum!

Hosted by Knot Enuff Quilts & Fabric, this free community event brings together quilting, history, and creativity for a fun evening at the museum. Learn more about the history of the iconic Singer Featherweight sewing machine, connect with fellow quilting enthusiasts, and enjoy a presentation on the history of the Featherweight beginning at 6:30 PM.

Whether you’re bringing your own Featherweight to sew or simply curious to learn more about these beloved machines, everyone is welcome! There is no cost to attend or tour the museum.

Fabric donations are also encouraged and will be used by the Knot Enuff Quilts of Valor group to create quilts honoring our nation’s veterans.

Planning to sew? Register in advance with Knot Enuff Quilts & Fabric through their website. Bring your Featherweight sewing machine, power cord, extension cord, sewing tools, and a project to work on! Tables and chairs will be provided.

Come spend your Friday evening enjoying good company, creativity, and a little local history! We hope to see you there! 🧵

We’re excited to welcome our featured speakers, Chris and Lynne Link, to our August Society Meeting this Thursday!

Chris and Lynne currently live in Greenbrier, TN, and both of them grew up in surrounding areas. (Whites Creek and Portland, TN). Over the last decade, they have been Civil War reenactors for Infantry, Artillery, and have also presented medical theories and practices at Living History Events. (Areas include Alabama, Mississippi, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Georgia). Having a passion for the history of the Civil War, it is always a welcomed opportunity to share with others interested to know the importance of working to keep history alive.

We can’t wait to hear from them and learn more about their work bringing Civil War history to life!
