Discover Your Ancestry. Honor the Past!
Researching a Patriot or your Family Tree

Join us for a free engaging presentation exploring how to trace your genealogy back to the soldiers of the American Revolution and beyond!

Springfield Historical Society and the Daughters of the American Revolution are sponsoring a presentation on July 18 (Saturday) from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Springfield Community Center, 129 County Road 29A, Springfield Center, New York. Loree Allen has researched many of the Revolutionary War soldiers buried in and around Springfield. As a novice, she will be sharing some tips that she has learned, some of which she wished she knew at the beginning of her research. Handouts will be available to get you started!

What you will learn: How to begin researching your family tree, tools and records used in Revolutionary War genealogy, tips for using military, pension, and census records, resources for verifying Revolutionary War ancestors, and how the DAR verifies lineage.

Gail Rogers of Oneonta Chapter and Megan Culbert of Otsego Chapter (Cooperstown), registrars of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), will discuss the documentation needed to join if participants are so inclined. A non-profit and non-political group, the DAR promotes historical preservation, education and patriotism. Its membership is limited to direct lineal descendants of soldiers and others of the American Revolution era who aided the revolution.

Pre-registration is required by July 11th. Please email Loree at [email protected] with your name and phone number to ensure enough handouts are available to all participants.
