Grateful to the West Manheim Heritage Committee for allowing me to view their digitalized copies of Mary Ann Furnace's Daybook from 1763. Notice the 4th entry is a sale of "piggmetal" 1 tonn to Spring Forge. This entry lets us know that the furnace was providing the pig iron for castings at the forge. Mary Ann Furnace operated as more than just an iron furnace, the store located there was the center of commerce and the daybooks include entries of sales of sundries, mutton, beef, shoes, silk stockings, thread, and even local butter and eggs resold. This resource gives us insight into the daily lives of locals 250+ years ago.

What began in 1864 as a small paper mill producing 1,500 pounds of paper per day grew into a company and community built on hard work, forward thinking, and a commitment to progress.​

More than 160 years later, that spirit continues to shape Spring Grove today.​
