Long before the internet and social media posts, people often received news on current events, public meetings, proclamations, and entertainment activities from a broadside. Broadsides were single sheets of paper with text and sometimes pictures designed to be printed and distributed to the public quickly.

They were printed on a hand press printing machine like the Washington Hand Press the MAC has in collections. On October 16th, join Whitworth and Gonzaga University professors who will lead a lecture on Print History – and Demonstrating Broadside Printing using our historic hand press machine.

Here's one of the newest additions to Spokane's stain-glass scene - at least for the next few months. This spectacular Tiffany Studios "Garden Landscape Window" created in 1900-1910 captures an ideal landscape. The brilliant colors were achieved through glass plating in which two or more layers of glass were added to the back of the window to create complex colors and light effects. See it and many more Tiffany masterworks starting this Sunday at the MAC.

Just a couple of blocks from the MAC and its in-progress installation of a new Louis Comfort Tiffany exhibition is another spectacular installation of Tiffany stained glass – in the historic Patsy Clark Mansion. Built in 1897 by celebrated Spokane architect Kirkland Cutter, the home was designed to be the “most luxurious mansion ever” as directed by the owner, mining millionaire Patrick “Patsy” Clark. Materials and furnishings for the house were collected from around the world and custom-built by artisans to exacting standards. That includes these stunning stain glass windows created by Louis Comfort Tiffany in New York City. Read more about the house https://spokanehistorical.org/items/show/281

Begun in 1925, the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist is a rare U.S. example of true Gothic architecture. The first section was completed in 1929, the remaining sections by 1961. Likewise, the stained glass windows have been a work in progress. Created by Charles J. Connick and Assoc of Boston and Willet Stained Glass Studios of Philadelphia, the original clerestory windows of Moses and Abraham balanced by Timothy and Stephen were installed in 1929. The West Rose Window's central portion was set in place in 1933 and completed in 1955. The most recent windows were installed in 2009. Ingeniously, plain windows with sections of colored glass were installed as placeholders, waiting to be replaced with stained glass as donors came forward. A more recent creation, the dazzling stained glass in the Peacock Room Lounge at the Historic Davenport Hotel was designed and made by Spokane artist, the late Susan Kim, in 2002. The 12 x 28 foot ceiling mosaic has almost 6,000 pieces and is a grand Jazz Age-style accompaniment to cocktails and apps. https://www.facebook.com/staydavenport

I stand corrected. I was having issues with phone calls & downloads on a order. I vented on this page and the staff was so kind as to help me out. Anna Harbin informed me of my firewalls that prevent some downloads...Again I apologize and am thankful to have received my photos.
I purchased 5 photos from the archives, made my payment. Never received the downloads. I contacted by e-mail 2 times to Alex Fergus for help with this issue. No response yet. I do not recommend making a purchase on line from this source.
I saw an ad in the newspaper today for the upcoming John James Audubon exhibit but cannot get tickets online. Frustrated.
I have tried repeatedly to buy tickets for my husband and me, but when I push the purchase button, it doesn't do anything. Also where it says to confirm my email, it comes up that they don't match, which they do. My husband tried to call the MAC, but it has a message that says you are closed. So my question is how do I get to see this exhibit?
How long will this be here?
The Pompeii exhibit was wonderful and we fortunately got to see it before the MAC closed. My brochure says it was to run through May 3rd - Is there any chance at all it will be extended or run at the Mac at a later time for those who waited and missed it?
I would greatly appreciate if you and your followers could visit our page, and give us some Likes and Follows. My research partner and I have put in over 1000 combined research hours in order to save this historic early Craftsman home from demolition. We have managed to gain a stay of ex*****on, and now a group of musicians are trying to turn this beautiful old home into a music conservatory. Due to it's particular history we back this endeavor. https://www.facebook.com/HMEHCDA/
