This week is the final week to view our Jundt Galleries and Arcade Gallery Exhibitions. ‘7 Years of Acquisitions’ highlights a few of the pieces that have been purchased by or donated to the museum since the appointment of our current director, Paul Manoguerra. ‘Glen Alps: From the Collection’ features the work of a pioneer in printmaking, Glen Alps. Have you seen this gorgeous glasswork here at the Jundt Art Museum? These pieces are a part of a series by Dale Chihuly called 'Macchia' which means “spots” in Italian. Each work has signature speckles of color created by layering small pieces of glass onto each Macchia’s outer layer of glass. These pieces can be seen in our Chancellor’s room here at the Jundt Art Museum. #DaleChihuly #GlassBlowing #SpokaneArt

Have you seen this Rodin statue in the Chancellor’s Room at the Jundt Art Museum? The sculpture by Auguste Rodin is a n**e study of figure belonging to a much larger sculpture called The Burghers of Calais, made up of six figures in total. The original sculpture was created to pay homage to six men from the French town of Calais who volunteered to sacrifice themselves to King Edward III to end the Hundred Years’ War between England and France in 1347. The men were spared by the King’s wife, but the sculpture captures them in the moment in which they believed they were going to die. The pictured sculpture is a Rodin study of the most prominent burgher, Eustache de Saint-Pierre. #AugusteRodin #SpokaneSculpture #gonzagauniversity

Would you believe that this glass chandelier has been at the Jundt art Museum since 1995?? This Dale Chihuly piece is one of our main attractions. It’s over 2,000 pounds and is made up of 800 glass pieces. And here's an insider tip: When you visit the museum, ask one of our gallery attendants to show you one of the unattatched glass pieces up close to get a better look at what this massive chandelier is made up of! #DaleChihuly #SpokaneArt #GonzagaUniversity

To continue this week's #HaroldBalazs highlight, we wanted to feature the Balazs pieces that we currently have on display at the Jundt Art Museum. From our 1998 exhibition, ‘Balazs At 70’, to today, we have maintained our strong relationship with Balazs’ art. Five of his pieces are currently displayed in our museum. “Espresso Stand”, “Above and Below”, “Another Pyramid Scheme”, “Inúsuk With Friends”, and “Pyramid on Rockers”. #SpokaneSculpture #GonzagaArt

This week we are doing a full highlight of the artist, Harold Balazs. If you live in Spokane, you’ve likely seen Balazs’ blocky, geometric sculpture and design work decorated throughout the city. Whether it’s his towering sculptures in Riverfront Park, stickers and t-shirts printed with his art in downtown shops, or hints of Balazs’ work scattered throughout Gonzaga’s campus, there is no doubt that Balazs has made his mark on Spokane. #HaroldBalazs #SpokaneArt #SpokaneSculpture

Juneteenth, Emancipation Day, or Juneteenth Independence Day is a holiday celebrating and remembering the end of slavery in the United States. Even though the Emancipation Proclamation was in effect in 1863, it was unable to be implemented in areas still under Confederate control. According to the National Museum of African American History and Culture, “Freedom finally came on June 19, 1865, when some 2,000 Union troops arrived in Galveston Bay, Texas. The army announced that the more than 250,000 enslaved black people in the state were free by executive decree. This day came to be known as "Juneteenth," by the newly freed people in Texas.” Juneteenth stands as the United States’ second Independence Day. This commemoration of the end of slavery and of freedom exists as a reminder of the horrors of racism and the deep-seated discrimination in our country. But it also holds the prospects of hope, of change, and of a progression towards equality. #JuneteenthArt #JamaalBarber

One of our biggest draws here at the Jundt Art Museum is our generous collection of Dale Chihuly glass artwork. This past winter, we constructed a massive 12 foot black plexiglass case to display 15 pieces of Chiluly glasswork. The case is currently on display in the Chancellor’s room here at the Jundt Art Museum. #DaleChihuly #BlownGlass #SpokaneArt

This week, we feature artist Mitchell Johnson. His internationally recognized art frequently intertwines reality and abstraction. Johnson draws inspiration from his own experiences in his art, and seeks to represent landscapes of the world on a much deeper level than just what can be seen with the naked eye. A current exhibition of Johnson’s work, “Color Continuum” can be seen at the Pamela Walsh Gallery in Palo Alto, CA. #JundtArtistHighlight #SpokaneArt #GonzagaArt
