This is the first flag of the Coast Guard. The Coast Guard was established in 1790 to maintain the only United States armed force on the sea. At the end of the Revoltionary war the Navy was disbanded because there was taxation to support a navy and no need to to fight England at sea. However due to the Barbary Coast, pirates, war with England & France there was a need for a Navy Military Force. The US Navy was reestablished in 1798.

For the 2021 Inauguration two 13 star flags will flank the 50 star flag. There will be 191,500 flags of varying size flown that day at the capitol including all state and territory flags.. Also there will be 56 pillars of light for those who can not attend. Originally Inauguration day was on Mar 4 to coincide with the approval of the Constitutions in 1789, but was moved to Jan 20, 1933 because March weather was too unpredictable. The first Inauguration was held in New York City and the second in Philadelphia before finally occurring in Washington City in 1801 later named Washington D.C. Inauguration means "beginning".

I just received this hand-hooked flag rug from a generous donor. It has over 1000 hand-hooked wool strip loops that took over 3 years to make. This process dates back over 2000 years. It is wonderful addition to the Flag Museum.
Today the local Young Marine Battalion toured the Flag Museum. It is always a pleasure to teach future leaders of our country a little history.
Cub Scout Troop 426 toured the Flag Museum on 19 Sept. There is nothing better than teaching kids about the American Flag.

MEMORIAL DAY EVENTS 1
Despatch from the Eastern Regiment, 24th instant:
From: Color Guard Vice Commander
Compatriots,
As this weekend begins I set up a booth in the woods next to the Civil War Reenactors event in Cheney Wa. There will be 200-300 Civil War soldiers with over a dozen cannons staging several battles Saturday & Sunday. I figured it would be a good place to get a few new members. Several schools bused high school kids studying history for a field trip today. Here are pictures with the Cheney High School Students. They loved the living history exhibit. I have a busy weekend scheduled, something different each day. I will send more pictures of each event.
