Spartanburg Art Museum FREE ADMISSION. PRICELESS ART. The Spartanburg Arts and Crafts Council was founded in 1907 by two local artists, Josephine Sibley Couper and Margaret Law.

Spartanburg Art Museum's mission is to advance contemporary visual arts by inspiring and engaging diverse audiences through exhibitions and education. They chose as their motto,

"Art must not be the occupation of a few, ministering to the luxury of a few; it must be a luxury for all."

Although the Arts and Crafts Council grew and evolved over the years, eventually becoming the Spartanburg Art Museum in 1968, its dedication to the spirit of that phrase never wavered. Now, over one hundred and ten years later, the Spartanburg Art Museum resides in a 3,000 square foot space located in the Chapman Cultural Center. SAM's exhibition calendar boasts a diverse range of contemporary exhibitions and offers a wide variety of educational and community programs for all ages and demographics. SAM is funded in part by The Arts Partnership of Greater Spartanburg and its donors, the County and City of Spartanburg, and the South Carolina Arts Commission which receives support from The National Endowment for the Arts.

Honored to be a part of Spartanburg Fashion Week!! The museum was filled with "Sinners" inspired models accompanying the amazing work of Eugene Martin!! Zydeco in the background and Cajun food almost take me back home to Lafayette Louisiana where we lived for 13 years. Contessa Thompson, Thanks for letting us be a part of such an amazing week!

Spartanburg Art MuseumTOMORROW NIGHT!!!! 5-8pm!!

Our new exhibit, "The Creative Act" by Eugene Martin (1928-2018), opens tomorrow night during ArtWalk! Come see the amazing creations by one of the most notable artists in the South. In conjunction with LSU, we are over the moon to show his work! Refreshments will be served!!

Can't come tomorrow? We will be showing from October 15-December 31, 2026, Tuesday-Saturday 10am-5pm and
AS ALWAYS, ADMISSION IS FREE!!!!

ART WALK TONIGHT FROM 5-8pm!!! Free Refreshments for our exhibit of permanent collection pieces from 120 Years of artwork at the Spartanburg Art Museum!!! Established in 1907, SAM now holds almost 2000 paintings and 900 artifacts from its time as the Spartanburg Arts and Crafts Club, The Spartanburg County Museum, The Spartanburg Museum of Art and now the Spartanburg Art Museum!!!!

Come see all of the variety of media and styles originating from our own vault holdings!! AS ALWAYS FREE ADMISSION Tuesday-Saturday 10am-5pm
