I was very honored to receive the Sussex County George Washington Award on Saturday at the Fairgrounds. Bill Truran presented it to me in the County Building. The award reads: Presented to an experienced Sussex County resident who has shown interest in history, displayed perseverance through service to the community, and has obtained the wisdom gained through their years to help with the preservation of our past." This award is especially meaningful to me because past recipients include Jennie Sweetman and Alex Everitt....two superstars in local history.

The Walpack Historical Society believes everyone has a story worth sharing. We invite you to join us for the Return of Spirits of Lower Walpack Cemetery program on Saturday, September 19, 2026 from 5 pm - 8 pm at the Lower Walpack Cemetery. WHS members will bring to life some of Lower Walpack Cemetery’s most fascinating inhabitants. Guests will also have the opportunity to learn more about the history of the cemetery and the surrounding property; the hard work, restoration and ongoing efforts to maintain the grounds; as well the history of the Salem Oak Tree of Walpack. Those interested will have the opportunity to join guided walks to the former Rosenkrans Ferry crossing on the Delaware River.

This is a weather dependent event. We highly recommend checking our social media platforms before you start your journey to Walpack. Additional information will be made available in the upcoming weeks.

Please note, the Lower Walpack Cemetery is by Flatbrookville. It is NOT by Peters Valley or Walpack Center.
