Opening Saturday, March 21st from 6–9 PM

Spaysky Fine Art Gallery LLC is pleased to present “INJURED?” a show by collaborators Braden Baer and Benjamin Kenjiro Saginaw.

Consisting of two members from Hamtramck Ceramck, this show presents new works emerging from the artists’ ongoing history of collaboration.

Central to the exhibition is a series of glaze paintings. Painted on bisque-fired ceramic slabs, the images are a mixture of glaze and underglaze—materials that are often unpredictable and can look different than their finished color when first applied, only revealing themselves after being fired. Through a mixture of technical experience and an embrace of the unpredictable, the images depicted in the paintings are imbued with uncanny qualities, blurring the lines between intent and chance, as well as between image and object.

Like a sculpture of a painting, the slabs are held in frames against the wall, resembling works on canvas while revealing their objectness upon closer inspection.

Accompanying the glaze paintings are sculptural and audio elements that allude to the artists’ history of working together and their interactions with other cultural institutions, setting a tone for the space and creating an environment through which to experience the work.

The exhibition will open on Saturday, March 21st, with a reception held from 6–9 PM, and will be on view through April 25th by appointment or during open hours, Saturdays 1–6 PM with additional open hours March 25th, 26th and 27th 1-6 PM during nceca.

Spaysky Fine Art Gallery LLC presents “In the Desert, a Mouth,” a Two-Person Exhibition Featuring Works by Ashley Cook and Mary Kate Huffman.
The exhibition brings together two artists who share a common studio and engage in dialogue but have very distinct approaches to art-making. Mary Kate presents assemblage sculptures composed of flimsy, mass-produced material that make disconnected references to aspirational wealth to create sculptures in the form of misfunctional objects and dioramas. Ashley Cook creates oil paintings that pull from the drama of expressive historical sculpture, reinterpreted into dreamlike compositions washed in pale pastels. Her figures appear suspended in meditative calm, yet carry an undertow of unsettling surrealism.
A shared motif within the exhibition is the cowboy hat. Recently used by tech billionaires trying to evoke a sense of the “frontier,” Huffman and Cook use the hat as a symbol of arrogantly squandered resources in a world marked by increasing scarcity and existential unease.
Titled from a subtle change to a song title on Pavement’s album Slanted and Enchanted, In the Desert, a Mouth is an exhibition of subtleties that express the absurd aesthetics of a world unraveling.

Spaysky Fine Art Gallery LLC is pleased to announce a solo exhibition by Mariam Ezzat.

She floated through the door;
She descended down the stairs.
She stood in the corner;
She recounted her affairs.

Three sculptures, processed and arranged by the artist over the past three years. Built from a wide array of materials and objects—charged with personal meanings and history gathered over a twelve-year span—the pieces come together to form loose figurative structures that evoke complicated characterizations.
Three-dimensional portraits that radiate internal lives, layered pasts, private narratives, and shifting identities. They explore the relationship between the body and the objects that adorn or surround it, and between the mind’s interiority and the material world that evokes emotion, memory, and meaning.
Using the relational energy between objects and the human experiences they signify, Ezzat evokes silent histories and characterizations that feel both intimate and elusive. The works form an uncannily intimate connection between object and viewer, explored through an extended process of placement and proximity.

💫 Opening Reception: Saturday, June 14, 6–9 PM

BIO:
Mariam Ezzat makes sculptures depicting subconscious routine within intentional creation. Her practice is a manner of narrative assemblage in small works or larger installation displays. The sculptures are made by collecting, processing, and arranging the material debris of daily life, mining the inherent, relational possibilities of objects. The work often speaks to the female and the Arab American experience according to its material make-up, which is based on the slow process of collection. Mariam received an MFA from Johnson State College in 2014 and is a professor of foundational design. She is also a 2019 Kresge Arts in Detroit Artist Fellow in Sculpture. She lives and works in Detroit, MI.

Opening April 19th, 202 Graem Whyte: A Beginner’s Guide to Constructing the Universe at Spaysky Fine Art Gallery LLC.

Centered on an immersive sculptural work that dominates the gallery space, Whyte utilizes repeated geometry as a building block for expansion into complex forms. Mimicking microphysics and architecture, the piece is a monumental yet ephemeral structure—its overlapping lines shifting with the viewer’s perspective. Crafted from historic ephemera salvaged from Detroit’s Bohemian National Home, Whyte assembles these patterned forms into basic geometric units, creating a sprawling, symmetrical cosmos of interlocking shapes. The work interrogates the hidden architectures of existence and sacred geometry, investigating construction from its most fundamental to its most elaborate levels.

A Beginner’s Guide to Constructing the Universe will open with a reception on Saturday, April 19th, 2025 (5–8pm) and remain on view through May 16th, 2025. Gallery hours are Saturdays, 1–5pm, and by appointment.

Graem Whyte is an artist born and raised in metro Detroit, now based in Hamtramck, MI. His work utilizes a wide array of materials and fuses sculpture, architecture, installation and relational art. He has exhibited nationally and internationally, and has received several awards for his work, most recently a Kresge Arts in Detroit Fellowship in 2021. He is the co-founder and Artistic Director of the arts venue Popps Packing, is the owner of Off-Whyte Studio, and is adjunct faculty at the College for Creative Studies in Detroit.
