I heard back today from the Domaine de Long-Pech. We may be able to visit them in May! This is the most beautiful winery run by two sisters. One sister makes the wine, the other does the marketing. Woman empowerment vive en France! Check out their page.

Today I am thinking about Francois-Xavier Fabre. Originally, he was a student of David who came from modest means. Fabre won the prix de Rome prize and moved to Rome - basically never to return. He spent a lot of his life in Florence where he befriended the fascinating Comtesse d'Albany whose lover was a celebrated poet and playwright. When the Comtesse died, she left her fortune to Fabre. He in turn bequested his extensive art collection to the City of Montpellier. Today it is the Musee Fabre.
His work, The Death of Abel, 1791 was widely celebrated when it was shown at the Salon.
