Today's date will be one that the SHFD will never forget. January 3rd, 1989 at approximately 10:15pm, the SHFD was dispatched to fork lift on fire. Firefighter/EMT Doug Maicach responded on Engine 665 coming out of station 2 on 170th street. As Engine 665 arrived on scene, Doug was deploying hose from the rear of the engine when an explosion was heard. The propane tank on the forklift exploded and was sent flying through the air like a torpedo. The tank struck Doug in the chest causing extensive injuries. Approximately 2 hours later, FF/EMT Doug Maicach became the first Line of Duty Death (LODD) that the SHFD suffered. So today, January 3rd, we remember Doug. Doug's love for the job, his commitment to the community and the ultimate sacrifice he paid 32 years ago. This morning, members of the SHFD will be in front of the station at the memorial site honoring and remembering Doug.

Rest easy, Doug.....

Georgie and I , sitting on the bumper of E 66 in front of station 2 . Word has it that Georgie ran off with a trucker from Georgia !!
Bill Eierman received a first place award for this photo he snapped waaaaaaaay back in the late 70s. I actually got goofed on for having a copy blown up and framed ( haters )
My dad and I enroute to a parade in the late 70s . At first it was a blast waving to people from the running board as we slowly rolled along the parade route . After my first emergency run as the apparatus driver ....pretty much done with parades
