Excited to announce Samite will perform a concert in his studio, 31 A, on the opening night of the Factory Market (Friday, December 5), from 6-7 P.M. Samite, the world-renowned musician and humanitarian, is also a woodworker and photographer with a studio at Artist Alley.
Samite’s experiences growing up in Uganda under oppressive dictatorships, as a refugee in Kenya, and other defining life experiences inform not only his music and art, but also his work with the non-profit organization, Musicians for World Harmony, which Samite founded in 2002.
Samite has composed the original soundtracks for the award winning film, Taking Root: The Vision of Wangari Maathai about the Kenyan Nobel Peace Prize winner, Addiction Incorporated, about the work of Victor DeNoble, the whistle-blower in the to***co industry, and the documentary Oli Oyta? The film was featured in film festivals, including the Sedona International Film Festival. It has won three Impact Docs Awards of Excellence, including one for his Original Score. His album, Resilience, features "On the Same Journey" which was nominated for one of his two Hollywood Music in Media Award in 2019. Samite’s one-man theater performance of the same name has been produced on the east and west coasts and last year here in Ithaca at the Kitchen Theatre.
Samite is also the subject of the documentary, "Song of the Refugee," shown on PBS and filmed in East and West Africa. He has released 12 CDs internationally and he currently divides his time between his music and photography studios and wood shop on Amazima Farm in Tully that he shares with his wife, Sandra, and their two horses. His hand-carved wood pieces and photography are on display in his studio, 31 A, at Artist Alley.
