I painted this portrait of Elaine Berenson in 2015. On August 22nd, she passed away, leaving a profound void in our family and in my heart.
Elaine was my life partner’s John Berenson mother, but for over twenty years, she was truly my second mom—my East Coast mother. Being so far from my parents in the Pacific Northwest, Elaine welcomed me with boundless warmth, sharp wit, and a wonderful sense of humor that could light up any room.
She loved the arts and was one of my fiercest champions. Elaine was always eager to see what was next on my easel, constantly pushing me to dream bigger and never give up. The memories I share with John, Elaine, and Sydney are deeply woven into who I am today.
Thank you, Elaine, for the laughter, the endless encouragement, and your unwavering love. You are forever in our thoughts and in every brushstroke. Rest peacefully Mumalah. I love you ❤️
