We’ve been blown away by the creativity of our visitors! ❤️

Throughout our summer exhibitions, we invited visitors to add to SVMA’s Interactive Community Tapestry, sharing the ways they express their authentic selves—or how they would like to be remembered.

The response was incredible. The tapestry grew into a colorful, moving collection of words, ideas, memories, and personal expressions, beautifully reflecting themes explored in our two summer exhibitions.

Thank you to everyone who added their voice and creativity. We love seeing what happens when the Museum becomes a space not only to experience art, but to become part of it.

What a joyful way to close out the summer! A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for SVMA’s Summer Family Make-In last Saturday—our participating families, artists, dancers, teaching artists, volunteers, and community members who made the day so special.

We created butterfly mementos with Edilia Mendez of RAIZES Collective, explored weaving with textile artist Alexander Hernandez, and made beautiful sun-powered cyanotype prints with Brenna Hansen.

A special thank you to the Sonoma Conservatory of Dance for a wonderful performance, and to everyone who got up and joined our afternoon disco dance lessons!

We loved seeing the Museum filled with people of all ages making art, trying something new, dancing, laughing, and creating together. That collective joy is what Family Make-In is all about.

You're Invited to a Meeting on the Future of Public Art in Sonoma!

Please join us for an important conversation with Connie Schlelein, chair of Sonoma’s Cultural & Fine Arts Commission (CFAC), and Dave Jahns, Sonoma's Parks and Recreation director, about the current state and future of public art, including information about a proposed Percent for Art In-Lieu Fee.

Schlelein and Jahns will present perspectives on Sonoma’s evolving public art program and how to create a stronger foundation for bringing art into Sonoma’s public spaces while reflecting the City’s unique character and history. The meeting will also include a question-and-answer session.

“SVMA has presented five dynamic public art exhibitions in the Plaza over the last several years in collaboration with the City,” says Linda Keaton, SVMA executive director. “We believe in the power of public art and are encouraged that the City is considering ways to strengthen these opportunities.”

Come and learn how thoughtfully conceived public art can boost local economies, make a community more memorable, encourage foot traffic, strengthen commercial districts, enhance public spaces, and make both public and private development more welcoming and distinctive.

Exhibition artist John Paul Morabito joined artist and curator Demetri Broxton for an engaging conversation about "John Paul Morabito: Dancing in the Night", recorded Saturday, August 8, 2026, at Sonoma Valley Museum of Art.

Two extraordinary voices in contemporary textile art come together for one inspiring afternoon at SVMA.

Join us on Saturday, August 8 at 3 PM for an engaging conversation between John Paul Morabito, whose dazzling exhibition Dancing in the Night is currently on view at Sonoma Valley Museum of Art, and acclaimed artist Demetri Broxton, whose powerful solo exhibition is currently on view at the Museum of the African Diaspora (MOAD) in San Francisco. Together, they'll explore weaving, identity, storytelling, history, and the creative process through the lens of their remarkable practices.
