These three artists use layers of translucency and structure to make works that imply another spatial dimension.  With color, gestural mark-making, reflected light and shadow, they bring observational references into abstraction. The elements that make up the images overlap, intersect, coalesce, and disperse, leading to new readings and interpretations. The works have in common an interplay between foreground and background, resulting in echoes and conversations between what is sharply defined and what is barely seen or slightly obscured. All three artists are founding members of the Brickbottom Artist Building.

Concurrent in the Side Gallery: Experiments in Print, Julia Shepley & Marsha Goldberg

Call for art | BAA Member Show: SPARK!

SPARK! is a member show built around one simple yet layered question: What sparks your creativity? We ask our artists to reflect on what ignites their spirit and channel that energy into works that are as personal as they are powerful. Come see countless ways creativity lights a spark and brings artwork to life.

Requirements: All BAA members are welcome to submit 1 piece. Artwork must be ready to hang/install. No artwork bigger than 48”x36” unless pre-approved by our gallery coordinators. Have any specific questions? Contact [email protected]

All artists submitting a piece are required to sign up for a gallery sitting shift.

📆 Art drop off: Wednesday July 15, 9-11 AM and 6-8 PM
📆 Exhibition dates: July 24th - August 23rd
📆 Opening Reception: Thursday July 23rd, 6-8 pm | The BAA will be providing w**e and non alcoholic beverages. We kindly request folks bring light bites and refreshments to share!

Join us for our opening reception for Rooted in Activism:
Sunday, June 14, 5-7 PM at the Brickbottom Gallery

This exhibition began as a tribute to Felice Regan, a founding member of the Brickbottom Artist Building whose printmaking gave visual force to urgent social and political issues, from anti-war activism to environmental justice.

By placing Regan’s work from the 1960s–80s alongside contemporary artists, Brickbottom Gallery traces the continued relevance of the issues she exposed: war, inequality, environmental destruction, and the targeting of vulnerable communities.

Exhibiting artists: Linda Bond, William Evertson, Shea Justice, Ellen Shattuck Pierce, Felice Regan, Susan Schmidt.

Special thanks to Massachusetts College of Art and Design for their involvement in the show.

Up next in the gallery: Rooted in Activism

On View: June 12-July 12
Reception: Sunday June 14, 5-7 pm

This exhibition began as a tribute and memorial to Felice Regan, a founding member of the Brickbottom Artist Building, an artist who used the power of printmaking to disseminate ideas from anti-war activism during the Vietnam War to the plight of our planet through endangered species education. Regan’s powerful vision points to moments in history and at the same time highlight the cyclical nature of events and ideas. We find ourselves right now dealing with the same ugliness of war on so many levels - demonization of the most vulnerable - the poor, the immigrant, the disabled. We are seeing the rewriting of history and the dialing back of steps forward our country has made concerning women’s rights, gay rights and racial equality. The issues Regan exposed in the 60’s are still with us and artists today are using powerful imagery to call attention to the gravity of these times.

Brickbottom Gallery has connected Regan’s messages from the 60’s-80’s with invited contemporary artists who are boldly showing uncomfortable visuals and ideas of this moment.

Exhibiting Artists: Linda Bond, William Evertson, Shea Justice, Ellen Shattuck Pierce, Felice Regan, Susan Schmidt.
