The successful rescue of the nine miners drew international attention and emotion. From July 24 to 28, 2002, the catastrophe and ensuing rescue captured the hearts and hopes of millions of people worldwide. The rescue took place on the 212-year-old Dormel Farms, listed on the Pennsylvania Historic Registry. Since the rescue on July 28, tens of thousands of people from around the world have visited
the farm, home of William Arnold and his parents, Melvin and Dorcas Arnold, to view the site where the miners were rescued. This tremendous show of public interest and support prompted the Arnold family to explore the vision of developing the site into a permanent monument. To help facilitate this process, the Arnold family has created the Quecreek Mine Rescue Foundation, a non-profit, 501(c)(3), a charitable organization "to preserve the site and celebrate the inspirational story of the Quecreek mine rescue." The Quecreek Mine Rescue Site invites you to come visit the rescue site where you can walk right up to the rescue shaft where the miners emerged from the dark, cold mine 240 feet below after 77 hours of frigid darkness. You will be greeted by the seven-foot tall bronze statue of a coal miner at the top of the walkway into the rescue site. Hear the story of the miracle from people personally involved in the rescue. Touch the rescue capsule and try to imagine how it would feel to squeeze into it with your strength nearly gone.

It is with great sadness that we bid farewell to Dennis "Harpo" Hall, 68, the 7th of the nine Miners rescued July 28, 2002.
Bill Arnold, Director of the Quecreek Mine Rescue Site said, "I have had the opportunity to speak with hundreds of coal Miners over the last 20 years and have discovered that one of the greatest accolades that a coal Miner can receive is a comment from a fellow coal miner that he was a "good Miner". Of the dozens of coal Miners that I have had the chance to speak with that have worked with Harpo, every one one them has said, "he was a good Miner". Our prayers go out to his family and friends, he will be missed, but not forgotten." You can see his obituary here: https://obituaries.tribdem.com/obituary/dennis-hall-1085202083

There is lots to do and we need YOU to volunteer today! So, please contact Bill Arnold and let him know how you or your organization can help.
