On July 4, 1976, during America’s Bicentennial celebration, Solvang welcomed a new Danish icon to the corner of Mission Drive and Alisal Road. The half-scale bronze Little Mermaid was created by Edvard Erichsen, the same sculptor behind Copenhagen’s famous statue that has watched over the harbor since 1913.

For 50 years, she has been a beloved Solvang landmark and a symbol of the town’s Danish heritage. She’s even featured on the City of Solvang’s official seal!

Wiinblad is coming… but first, we paint!

Behind the scenes at Elverhøj, our volunteers and Executive Director are rolling up their sleeves (and wielding paint brushes!) to get the gallery ready!

Pedestals are being painted, displays are taking shape, and a wonderfully imaginative world is about to unfold.

"Through the Eyes of Wiinblad" debuts on Saturday, August 22 from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Admission is free and everyone is welcome.

A little paint, a lot of teamwork and (soon) a whole lot of Wiinblad!

Join us on September 3, 2026 from 6:00-7:00 as we discuss "A Line in the World: A Year on the North Sea Coast" Dorthe Nors’s first nonfiction book that chronicles a year she spent traveling along the North Sea coast—from Skagen at the northern tip of Denmark to the Frisian Islands in the Wadden Sea.

Books are available at the Museum Store and book club members receive a 15% discount.

Bursting with vibrant color, playful patterns, and enchanting characters, the work of Bjørn Wiinblad has delighted audiences around the world for generations. One of Denmark's most beloved artists, Wiinblad transformed ceramics, textiles, posters, illustrations, and stage design into joyful celebrations of creativity, fantasy, and beauty.

Admission is free, and everyone is welcome. Come celebrate the opening of this extraordinary exhibition. You'll leave seeing the world through Wiinblad's eyes!
