In June 1936, the Gregersen brothers, Albert, Magnus, and Halfdan, gave a lasting gift to Solvang. Donated in honor of the town’s 25th anniversary and in memory of their parents, Jens and Sofia Gregersen, the land reflected the family’s deep ties to the community. Jens Gregersen was one of Solvang’s three original founders and a key figure in the Danish colony’s early years. That gift became Solvang Park, a beloved gathering place that continues to serve residents and visitors nearly a century later.
The Gregersen family’s commitment to Solvang continues today. Erik Gregersen, son of Halfdan and grandson of Jens, has served on Elverhøj Museum’s Board of Directors for many years, and the family remains a valued sponsor of our Summer Solstice Party, helping preserve Danish American traditions for future generations.
