Heartfelt thanks to Al Puhalla and the Puhalla family for their generous support of our fundraising efforts at the David House Heritage Museum.

Local roots run deep here on the Mountaintop, and the Puhalla family story is a true testament to the hard work and dedication that built our community. Descendants of the Slovak and Italian families who settled in Clarence in the late 1800s and early 1900s, Al founded Mountain Top Welding, LLC in 1988 alongside his son, A.J.

What began as welding and fabrication for local exploration and coal mining companies quickly expanded into major operations. In 2003, the business name was changed to A&A Construction because welding was only a fraction of the work being done, including building locations for drilling rigs, pipelines, stream crossings, demolition, and trucking with 77 straight trucks and trailers with over 100 employees.

In 2016, A.J. returned the company to its original name, Mountain Top Welding. Today, it stands as a shining example of Mountaintop entrepreneurship.

As A.J.puts it:
"Like most small business entrepreneurs, it has been a labor of love. I truly enjoyed what I did and am still doing. And like all the other business owners, it was just long hours, short nights, and due diligence to the jobs."

We are incredibly grateful to community champions like the Puhalla family who remember their roots and give back to help preserve our shared history.

Since 1991, the Snow Shoe Original Brothers Pizza has been a beloved staple of the Mountaintop community—marking 35 years of incredible service.

The family-owned business was founded by Anthony “Tony” Pistone and his brothers, who immigrated from Sicily with their father in 1954. Over the years, Tony expanded the business to Beech Creek, Milesburg, Millheim, Zion, and the Nittany Mall. The final two locations included Northland Center in State College and the Snow Shoe restaurant, which Tony built alongside his daughter, Josie, and her husband, Ed Findley.

A huge thank you to Josie, Ed, and the Original Brothers Pizza team for their generous sponsorship and continued support of The David House fundraising events.

Join CCHS for a viewing of Graves on Indian Lane which explores the layered history of a little-known burial site in Centre County, a memorial honoring two Revolutionary War soldiers who were killed in action on July 24, 1778, in an engagement with five American Indians. The documentary film is about 17 minutes in length and discussion will follow.

Thank you to the Clarence American Legion Auxiliary for sponsoring our fourth annual Mountaintop Historical Day, August 15th, 12-4pm.

The Legion Auxiliary supports veterans and local families in need, including hosting community meals for Memorial and Veterans Days. Wreaths. They also buy wreaths for Wreaths Across America, host Quilts of Valor, and give to the VA Home in Hollidaysburg.
