Virginia's Oldest Church Building, completed in 1686, served as an Anglican Church Building of Newport Parish in Isle of Wight County, Virginia until 1777. Today it is a National Historic Landmark and National Symbol of Religious Freedom. Luke's Historic Church & Museum, is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization which depends solely on private donations. Today the organization operates a 43-acre campus

with open and active cemeteries, historic church building, artifacts and collections exhibitions, guided tours, wedding rentals, education lectures, special events, and concerts.

On this day the 1662 Act of Uniformity went into effect. It required the use of the Book of Common Prayer for all services, leading the what was called "The Great Ejection," where 2,000 non-conformist ministers lost their positions in the Church of England.
