Spotlight on today's runner: 1950 Farmall M
Although she looks old and rusty in her work clothes, this 76 year old tractor still runs like a sewing machine. Her job today?, disc-harrowing the furrows from our Plowing with Draft Horses demonstration in early May. Better late than never.....😏😊

Another sad historical erasure in the making today. Beautiful proud house dated 1834 at 1211 Collegeville Road outside Skippack Village. Former home of Henry B. Brown Jr., one time vice president of sales at Superior Tube. A sad reminder of the growing trend where the land is worth more than the survivor. 😔

PV250 is proud to have Skippack Historical Society join us as a Non-Profit Partner for the regional celebration of the U.S. Semiquincentennial and beyond!

The Skippack Historical Society is a non-profit organization formed in 1967 for the purpose of researching and documenting the many historical sites and rich history of the Skippack Valley, the site of the second inland settlement of the Pennsylvania German people.

In the year 1706, Gerhardt and Hermanus Indenhofen purchased 440 acres of land from Mathias Van Bebber. This property over the next 100 years was divided and sold off, becoming the village of Skippack. Gerhardt and his brother built a house on their land around 1720. It is the first house built in the village and perhaps in the Township. The Skippack Historical Society has been studying and restoring the Indenhofen house and farmstead over many years.

SHS members participated in Towamencin Township's 250 celebration event at Fischer's Park. Using a quill pen, children experienced the feeling of signing the Declaration of Independence. Thank you ladies for donating your time to represent our group in one of the many local 250th happenings this year! 🇺🇸

Every now and then we get contacted by someone who kicks up an amazing local find. Here we have bell-top hat made in Skippack by hatter Samuel S. Apple (1825-1897) from the time of 1855 to 1866. This style is contemporary to mid 1800s fashion. According to his obituary, Apple had a hat factory in Skippack that was originally a business of Charles Ruth. Factory whereabouts unknown, but the Basta Pasta building was originally the Enterprise Shirt Factory before it was a hardware store. Other factory buildings in Skippack I'm currently unaware of. There is a small tag on the hat noting the owner was a Reiff, a very common last name in the Skippack/Lower Salford areas.

Skippack Elementary Colonial Fair !
Once again, SHS members participated in this annual 5th grade event. Cortney Marengo and Sam Engle taught the children how to make candles. Benjamin Webb, with help from Russell Appler, joined the Colonial homes station. Here students discussed the types of homes built back then. Ben showed them a model of the Indenhofen house and the various tools used at the time to turn trees into beams. (Unfortunately to keep things respectful, we do not post pictures of the children.)
