The Crossroads
“The Crossroads” connects the Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center and the Betty Strong Encounter Center. It is a place of reflection and a symbol of hope for dialogue, understanding and peace among all people who make their home in the region.
“The Crossroads” comprises two elements: four colors (black, white, red and blue) arranged in a circle over a compass. The four col

ors represent Native peoples who lived in this region long before Lewis & Clark arrived in 1804. The compass refers to those who came after, including explorers and immigrants who continue to come here from every part of the world.
“The Crossroads” is the result of collaboration between Cannon Moss Brygger & Associates architects and Raymond A. Bucko, S.J., Director of Native American Studies at Creighton University, Omaha, Nebraska. Cannon Moss Brygger designed the Sioux City Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center and the adjoining Betty Strong Encounter Center. The Crossroads message is illuminated by the poem, “The Sign of the Cross,” by J.

What a great concert today! The Keanes, Joanne and Kevin never fail to please the audience. Our standing room only crowd was treated to everything from Elvis tunes to Rhinestone Cowboy to a sing-a-long of God Bless America. We look forward to their return in December. Thank you again for a funfilled afternoon Joanne and Kevin.

We would like to thank the leaders of the 50th Annual Loess Hills Prairie Seminar that discussed and shared images from the fifty years of preserving and enjoying the beautiful unique ecology of our Loess Hills.
Tyler Ruge, event coordinator Monona County conservation, naturalist and park ranger and Dianne Blankenship, former event coordinator and seminar board member, and a member of the seminar planning committee spoke of how the seminar got started, how it evolved over the decades, and where the seminar is now and how things have changed. Tom Schoening introduced the program with a short video. And a couple power point presentations shared images of the beautiful nature preserve, high in the scenic Loess Hills from past presenters and attendees. Tyler discussed the current state of the seminar and the future of the seminar. They answered questions and gave other information to our audience.
