Bullitt County History Museum

Bullitt County History Museum The Bullitt County History Museum is a free public service of the Bullitt County Genealogical Society Cooperation at its finest!

In year 2000, Bullitt County Government was looking to replace the old 1901 courthouse. Historians worried about the loss of the historic old building. The result was what has turned out to be a great compromise. The county replaced the back section, but kept the significant front portion, allowing that old section to be used as a first-ever county history museum.

Here is another newly reconfigured display case at the Bullitt County History Museum. If you went to Bullitt Central High School, it is very possible you had Dennis Shaffner as an art teacher. Well, this is his display case that he puts Folk Art in. He does a fabulous job putting it together so come in and see it in person!!!! Dennis has been volunteering at the museum for about 3 years this time around. Very glad to have him as part of our team!!

Come to the Bullitt County History Museum July 18th from 1-3!!!

This is the date to mark on your calendar for coming to the museum to celebrate America 250!!!
George Washington (Mayor Jose) will read a portion of the Declaration of Independence about 1:15.
There will be 10 - $10 gifts cards - Help your young ones do a scavenger hunt between 1:00 to 2:30 then put their name in the basket. I will draw 10 names out at approximately 2:45.
Then we all can go to the park and see more patriotic happenings and booths.
Also, don't forget, if you want the folk of 2076 to see what it was like in 2026 - think of a small item to put into the Time Capsule. Drop that item off at the Bullitt County History Museum or take it to the Bullitt County Tourism Booth on July 18th. You have until July 31st to get your items to us.

Happy Birthday America!!!!

Time is running out for you to write a letter to your descendants for the Time Capsule. Get that letter to us at the Bullitt County History Museum by July 31st.

How neat it will be, 50 years from now, your descendants are standing by the opening of the Time Capsule in 2076, and their name is read for having a letter from YOU!!!!

Posted this last week:
Time Capsule idea.... Write a note to your descendants and make sure their name is on the envelope. I just watched the opening of Bardstown's Time Capsule from 1976, and it was so interesting watching descendants see notes and items left by their families.
Drop it by the Bullitt County History Museum by July 31st.
