… A common sight across much of North America, the Killdeer is a common, large plover full of surprises. Though it’s considered a shorebird, the species is often found far from the beach. And despite its modest stature, slightly bigger than a robin, it has a big voice that is impossible to miss even from a distance. Up close, the bird has a subtle beauty, with dark bands across its breast, a chestnut back, and striking rings of red around its eyes.

Indeed, there’s plenty to unpack about this bird. Found throughout the Lower 48 in the summer and present year-round in the southern half of the country, Killdeer are highly adaptable and thrive in a diverse range of settings. They also have a flair for the dramatic, putting on a show both when mating and threatened. Not to mention, Killdeer chicks are really cute! - audubon.org

… You know spring is definitely here in Sayville when the wild Grape Hyacinth (Muscari) are blooming at Sayville Marina Park. Grape Hyacinth (Muscari) is a popular, easy-to-grow spring-flowering bulb known for its dense clusters of small, grape-like blue, purple, pink, or white flowers. Plant bulbs in the fall in well-drained soil with full sun to partial shade, and they will naturalize readily, creating a carpet of color in borders, rock gardens, or containers. They are hardy, deer-resistant, and attract pollinators, but can spread aggressively, so planting in containers can help manage their growth.

… A Quintessential New York Institution

Founded in 1917 by the Drama League, the Drama Book Shop became an independent book store in 1923 and since that time has been deemed a quintessential New York City cultural institution. Over the past 100 years, the Drama Book Shop has secured its reputation as the city’s best source for theatrical works, with over 8,000 plays regularly in stock. In 2011, the Drama Book Shop received a Tony Award® Honor for Excellence in the Theatre. Given since 1990, this award is bestowed upon individuals, organization, and institutions that have demonstrated profound achievement in the theatre but are ineligible in any of the established Tony categories.

… St. Patrick’s Cathedral is the Mother Church of the Archdiocese of New York and the seat of its Archbishop. Built by contributions large and small, it remains emblematic of the ascendance of religious freedom in the New World. As such, this international landmark is a beacon of hope for those who share the Catholic faith and a source of inspiration to the more than five million visitors of every religious denomination welcomed here each year.

The Cathedral has been a wellspring of hope and solace in times of peace and plenty and war and sorrow. In a city and nation of immigrants, it has greeted countless waves of peoples seeking freedom. St. Patrick’s Cathedral anchors us all to such basic human virtues as charity, love, decency, strength and justice. While the surrounding urban environment has seen constant change, St. Patrick’s Cathedral has stood strong, overlooking Fifth Avenue, since its dedication in 1879.

With winds and clouds and changing skies;

I hear the rushing of the blast

That through the snowy valley flies.”
