Here is a map of Alabama and Georgia from 1823, showing how the settlers had moved from the east in Georgia and from the west in Alabama as the settlers came up the rivers from Mobile. As a result, the Creek nation was hemmed in from both sides. Those two small areas on Alabama’s western border are Chickasaw and Choctaw territory. Settlers were slower to come up the Chattahoochee River because Florida still belonged to Spain until 1819. By the late 1830s, settlers had moved into that territory as well and most of the Creek nation had been removed to Oklahoma.

Update…..someone commented and I should have also noted that there was also Cherokee territory in the area above the Creeks.

Our July program will be by Senoia resident, and long-time SAHS member and volunteer, Hal Sewell. Hal will discuss how Chief William McIntosh Jr.'s daughter, Croesy, was relocated to Senoia after her father's death, and how she lived the rest of her life in and around Senoia and was - according to at least one published report - buried in the city limits.
