You will learn how to create a front and side view of a street or city scene, which can then be finished with any medium of you choose.” Participants need to bring drawing paper or pad (9”x 12” or larger), pencil, eraser, ruler larger than 12”, and any finishing materials desired (paints, inks, colored pencils, etc. and their related materials).
Cost is $40. Register by September 5. To register for the workshop email [email protected].

Artworks Gallery Offers Traditional Watercolor Landscape Painting Workshops
The Artworks Gallery offers Traditional Watercolor Landscape Painting Workshops with Roberta Nelson on Thursdays, September 10 and 17 from 1 to 3 p.m. The workshop will be held at the Artworks Gallery, 109 Fall Street in downtown Seneca Falls.
Roberta says, “The workshop focuses on the traditional method of watercolor painting, also known as glazing. The superimposed wash is the foundation for the traditional method of watercolor painting. The paint is applied in a series of flat or graded washes superimposed from light to dark to create desired effects. The lightest color wash is applied first; the medium is applied over it; and the darkest applied over the medium. The top wash will determine the final effect.”
Participants need to bring a set of watercolor paints (do not buy tube colors that say tint), brushes, cold pressed 140lb. wt. watercolor paper 9”x 12” or larger, a board larger than the paper to stretch the paper, masking or painters tape, water container, paper towels, pencil, eraser, and photos to use for subjects.
Cost is $20 per workshop. Register by September 1. To register for the workshop email [email protected].

Artworks Gallery Offers Wax Resist Painting Workshop
The Artworks Gallery offers Wax Resist Painting Workshop with Roberta Nelson on Thursday, September 3 from 1 to 4 p.m. The workshop will be held at the Artworks Gallery, 109 Fall Street in downtown Seneca Falls.
Roberta explains, “Resist Painting is a method of applying wax to various parts of the picture so that the applied water-based paint will not adhere to those areas. Many interesting effects and textures can be created by using rubbings or various drawing techniques. It is similar to the batik process except that is done on paper instead of fabric.” Participants need to bring a box of crayons, watercolor paper 140lb. weight (at least 9”x12”), watercolor brushes, water container, a hard surface (like plexiglass or wood) larger than the watercolor paper size, pencil, eraser, paper towels, and a photo to reproduce, if desired. The instructor will bring an iron, drawing paper, tracing paper, and a blow-dryer.
Cost is $30. Register by August 24. To register for the workshop email [email protected].

Artworks Gallery Offers Gouache Painting Workshops
The Artworks Gallery offers Gouache Painting Workshops with Roberta Nelson on Fridays, August 7 through August 14 from 1 to 3 p.m. The workshop will be held at the Artworks Gallery, 109 Fall Street in downtown Seneca Falls.
Roberta says, “Gouache paints are opaque watercolors meaning that the bottom layers of color are not visible through the top ones. The binding agent in these paints is gum Arabic with an inert pigment, mainly chalk. Transparent watercolors are applied from lighter colors to darker ones while gouache are generally applied from darker to lighter. Three basic techniques are used: mid-tone. tiling, and grisaille. Effects can range from those resembling watercolors or acrylics.” Participants need to bring 140lb. weight watercolor paper or pad (at least 9”x12”), watercolor brushes and stiffer bristle brushes, palette, hard board (plexiglass or wood) larger than the size of the paper to stretch the paper, masking tape, watercolor container, paper towels, pencil, eraser, and a photo of any subject (still life, floral, landscape) to be reproduced. The instructor will provide opaque watercolors and information sheets.
Cost is $20 per class. Register by August 3. To register for the workshop email [email protected].
