What an amazing turn out for "It All Started With a Shoe" this past Sunday at the Old Herman School! About 45 people showed up, many of them locals eager to hear how their ancestors were connected to the school and the recently donated child's shoe, as well as to learn about the remarkable Fetter Girls and their contribution to Snyder County and the preservation of the school.

WNEP's Joe Snedeker will be making a stop at the Herman School as part of his Go Joe 29 charity bike ride. Come out July 22 at 3 pm to support the Herman School and Go Joe!

On July 26, there will be a short historical presentation at the Herman School. "It All Started With a Shoe": A recent donation of a mysterious child's shoe initiated an investigation into its original owner and revealed deep ties to the Herman School and several local families as well as some surprises along the way! The presentation will be given at 1:30 pm and again at 2:30 pm. In addition to the two presentations, the school will be open from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. that day for tours.

Every year, the Herman School Association sponsors two $300 scholarships to graduating seniors in the Midd-West and Selinsgrove school districts who plan to further their studies in the field of education. This year's winners are Sydney Jordan (Midd-West) and
Colin Nichols (Selinsgrove). Congratulations!

A recent discovery at the Union Co Historical Society book sale revealed an interesting connection to the Herman School.

After reading about the organ clock and the Herman connection, we were on a mission to find out what the clock looked like.

As you can see... It's phenomenal. Just imagine the sound of the organ pipes as the clock strikes and sight of the beautifully carved dancers as they waltz around to the tune.

Photos of the clock will be on display at the school in our scrapbook. The clock is currently in storage (not available for public viewing) at the National Clock Museum in Columbia PA.

Looks like we had our first visitor prior to the tour season starting! We are officially open this Sunday, June 7, 1-4 pm.
