🌿 Ballard is buzzing as we countdown the final hours to “Faux Flora”, an immersive multisensory exhibition incorporating sound, scent, & sculpture from !

🌸 “Faux Flora” weaves together the raw yet complex parallels between human existence and the life cycle of plants. The exhibition imagines new flowering plant species, progressing through five chapters—germination, growth, flowering, seed formation, and dispersal—mirroring the stages of human life: birth, childhood, adolescence, adulthood, and death.

🎧 Tonight, we kick off opening weekend with the first of our sold-out scented concerts featuring Jónsi, Sin Fang, and Kjartan Holm, followed by an encore show on November 10.

🥀 Doors open to all tomorrow. See you there, Seattle!

🦇 Bats, swans, and eagles—oh my! This eerie-yet-elegant plate, a recent addition to our permanent collection, was designed by Norwegian artist Christian Krohg to honor legendary playwright Henrik Ibsen (1828–1906).

Created by Bing & Grøndahl in Denmark the year after Ibsen’s passing, it features winged creatures rich in symbolism: swans and eagles soar through Ibsen’s works, while bats—which may be emblematic of melancholy—have long been associated with artistic and creative pursuits.

Perfectly spooky for Halloween, don’t you think? 🎃

We’re beyond excited to see the National Nordic Museum spotlighted in The New York Times! 🎉

Lauren Gallow explores how museums are embracing scent as an art form, featuring immersive exhibitions like our upcoming "Faux Flora"—opening November 9—by Fischersund, the family-run art collective founded by siblings Jónsi, Lilja, Ingibjörg, and Sigurrós. This exhibition will combine fragrance, music, and emotion to deliver a truly one-of-a-kind multi-sensory experience.

We’re teaming up with our friends at SIFF for a special screening of classic silent horror film HÄXAN! Check it out ⬇️

Tickets here: siff.info/haxanfb

Grave robbing, torture, possessed nuns, and a satanic Sabbath: Benjamin Christensen’s legendary HÄXAN (1922) uses a series of dramatic vignettes to explore the scientific hypothesis that the witches of the Middle Ages suffered the same hysteria as turn-of-the-twentieth-century psychiatric patients. But the film itself is far from serious—instead, it’s a witches’ brew of the scary, gross, and darkly humorous.

Presented in partnership with the National National Nordic Museum, this screening of HÄXAN will be preceded by a lively conversation between SIFF Programmer Dan Doody and University of Washington Professor Amanda Doxtater.

Join us Friday, October 18, at 7pm at the SIFF Film Center: siff.info/haxanfb.

The National Nordic Museum

The National Nordic Museum is a museum and cultural center where people of all backgrounds can be inspired by Nordic values, traditions, and art. Located along the working waterfront of the Ballard neighborhood in Seattle, we share the broader American immigrant story through the Nordic emigrant experience, as well as the history and geography of the Nordic countries, from 12,000 years ago to the present.
