Having two kids is crazy.

The truth is everyone says your heart grows twice in size when you have a second baby. For me, it felt like my heart broke into two pieces. Che was my world. When Uma was born, it felt like my world flipped upside down. Maybe I didn’t know how to create more love, maybe I was mourning the days of mothering only one child. How could I feel so happy and so lost at the same time?

I did know to trust myself. I felt wobbly and out of sorts. But I took care of myself. As time went by, these two little people unfolded into their new roles. And I became bigger, stronger, a larger life force to love and care for these little humans.

Suddenly I was whole and sturdy, wobbly no more. And Che became big brother. And Uma became little sister.

And that mysterious postpartum curtain lifted. Now days are filled with tiny giggles and hugs and silliness. And it feels as though there was always an Uma in our lives. And sometimes it even feels like life before Uma & Che was maybe a dream.

Things are always changing! Is that what it’s like to run a small business?

I will let you in on a secret, I signed the lease to my retail space shortly after finding out I was pregnant with my daughter. With my luck, I was struck with debilitating nausea and could barely drag my body down to the space for the first few months. The early stages of my painting studio, with an attached art gallery.

In the winter I would brainstorm business plans, creative ideas, ways to set my business apart from the rest. The idea I kept coming back to? I wanted to raise my kids in an art community. I wanted to wrap them up in the weird, wonderful and unusual. A creative childhood.

A lot has changed since the summer began, and I finally started to build that creative family I was looking for. I still have no clue where I’m going but I know I’m on my way.

“Life moves pretty fast.”

Uma is now big enough to prop on my hip and it feels like yesterday it was Che that I was slinging around.

Also very sleep deprived this week, in true baby mama fashion. So find me painting random things like this tiny Levi’s jacket for no reason.
