Travis J. Prince-
Best known for his painting "Chancellor Willams", Travis Prince is a self taught portrait artist from South Carolina. His focus on education, social issues, and relationships within the black community is put in the forefront of his work. His medium of choice are oil paints, but he sometimes incorporates inks, spray paints and other mediums as well. He hopes that his art will spark conversations on the beauty of being human.

Ask the Framer
Article 10 - Air Quality

Q: I know enough to have my pictures framed with acid free mats, but my husband is a smoker. Should I be concerned?

A: Yes, for health reasons and for art conservation reasons as well. Air quality plays an important role in the preservation of artwork. I'm glad to hear that you use acid free mats when framing your artwork. Perhaps you may want to consider an acid free backboard as well!
Air Quality is just as important though. Smoke is a serious pollutant, whether it is from ci******es, cooking, out-gassing from new carpets, etc... It would be unrealistic to think that you can showcase your art in a perfect environment. However, using curatorial framing care (acid free mats and backboards, UV protection glass, etc...) not allowing smoking in the room where your collection is housed and keeping the artwork out of direct sunlight will be a very large step in the right direction.

Ken Marquis has been serving Northeast Pennsylvania with fine picture framing for over 30 years.

If you have any other framing questions, comments, or curiosities please send us a message. We would love to hear from you!
