The Walk In Art Center is an Education based Art Center located in downtown Schuylkill Haven, PA. The Walk In Art Center provides fourteen individual live working studios for artists to develop, exhibit and sell their work. Along with the studios, the Wa

lk In Art Center houses a main gallery that has revolving exhibitions throughout the year. Each season the studio artists and associate artists work together to bring education and development of the arts to the community through various classes, workshops and camps.

Top Ten Reasons to support the Walk In Art Center during NEPAGives on June 4 & 5.

Reason #2: Families. There are sometimes a limited number of activities that families can do together. Luckily, this area has an abundance of natural beauty that can be experienced as a family. The Walk In offers opportunities for parents and kids to come to a seasonal art day together, see a free concert, take a class--there are very few events here at the WIAC that are inappropriate for kids. We believe the best way to foster creativity is to immerse kids in art-based activities from birth!

Top Ten Reasons to support the Walk In Art Center during NEPAGives on June 4 & 5.

Reason #3: New people discover the Walk In Art Center every day.

New people come through our doors nearly every day, maybe having seen an ad in the paper, a tv spot on the local channels, or just searching online for places to visit in PA. Even people who live on our street will drop by and say, "you know, I've always wondered what was in here." But once they visit, they are hooked!

The WIAC brings people to the county, new faces to the town of Schuylkill Haven, and new opportunities to share all that the area has to offer. We are proud to be part of the reason folks visit this part of the state and to share what makes Schuylkill County a great place to live and work.

Top Ten Reasons to support the Walk In Art Center during NEPAGives on June 4 & 5.

Reason #4: Summer Art Camp! Do you know that the Walk In Art Center welcomes 100+ kids to summer art camp each year? Did you know that 20% of those kids attend free of charge via the WIAC's scholarship program? If students qualify for free or reduced lunch, they can still attend a week-long summer art camp. (Those who'd like more information about that should call 570-732-3728).

We know how important the arts are to kids' development, academic achievement, and confidence and we want to make sure anyone can experience the arts no matter their economic circumstances.

Camp Scholarships are possible through the donations of friends like you. Consider helping more kids attend camp by giving during NEPAGives on June 4 & 5!

Top Ten Reasons to support the Walk In Art Center during NEPAGives on June 4 & 5.

Reason #5: Everyone is an artist! Ok--so most of us aren't Rembrandt or DaVinci but we all have some creativity--somewhere. It might be buried under daily pressures, work, obligations, but it's there. The Walk In Art Center's classes in pottery, fiber arts, collage, and those famous Paint & Sips you've heard of, are great ways to take a break from everyday life and discover some unknown or unused talents. Time to dust them off and see what you can create, and the Walk In is the place to do it.

Classes at the Walk In are as affordable as possible, made so by donations and support from friends and businesses. A $25 donation helps to keep workshops and classes affordable for all.

Reason #6: The WIAC is a catalyst for economic growth in the County.

When people look to move to or start a business in an area, they usually look to see what other activities and businesses are in the area to enjoy. They will search out recreational and outdoor activities and yes....they will search out creative industries as well. Schuylkill County has a wealth of great artists, theatre & music groups, and art activities. The WIAC's robust schedule of events is a huge attraction for people checking out the area. They may have even seen the WIAC's Sheep to Shawl Teams on the newscasts and thought, "I should check out that place!" The Fiber Arts Guild draws in visitors from New Jersey, Maryland, and places north. The groups at the WIAC are possible through donations from people like you.

Top Ten Reasons to support the Walk In Art Center during NEPAGives on June 4 &5!

Reason #7: You've probably heard, "The arts make you smarter." Well, let's just say that there is a strong correlation that shows that students who participate in the arts score higher on the SAT, are less likely to drop out of school, and have a higher GPA on average than a student who doesn't participate in arts programs.

But do the arts actually make you smarter? The jury is out, however, the arts give students skills that help them succeed in whatever they do. Not only is creativity expanded, but the arts also strengthen focus, teamwork, motor skills, confidence, and so much more.

The Walk In believes in the power of art education for all and offers scholarships to its summer art camps and other programs for kids! Your donations and support allow us to do this! Please consider giving during NEPAGives!

Reason #8--The Folk Arts are how people connect with their heritage and the collective heritage of their ethnic group. In Schuylkill County, people connect with their roots through art, food, music, and religion and here at the Walk In Art Center, we support the artists that keep those traditions alive. The Folk Art Alliance: Berks, Lancaster, & Schuylkill at the WIAC works to make sure these artists are valued and their work is not lost to time.

#9--The Walk In opens its doors to other community groups

Community groups like the Scouts, Church groups, senior centers, other arts groups, and different organizations have used the Walk In's Main Gallery for events and fundraisers at little to no cost. The Walk In believes that its resources should be shared as much as possible to lift up other great organizations in the area. A high tide lifts all boats, etc. It welcomes groups looking for fun activities to do together, or a place to showcase what they do to the area is a beautiful way.

The Walk In is able to offer these opportunities thanks to the generous contributions of donors and friends.
