The Town of Saratoga is part of a much larger Revolutionary landscape.

That was one of the themes Sean Kelleher explored during his presentation for the Old Saratoga Historical Association, previewing Victory Season at Saratoga and the work ahead for Saratoga 250.

The 2026 season creates connections between Saratoga National Historical Park, Schuylerville, Fort Hardy Park, Schuyler’s Saratoga Estates, and the communities surrounding the battlefield.

For the Town of Saratoga, that larger connection matters.

Visitors who come for history can explore the landscape, support local businesses, visit historic sites, and discover communities beyond the familiar battlefield.

As Saratoga County looks toward the 250th anniversary in 2027, these connections will become increasingly important.

Old Champlain Canal Lantern Festival — October 25, 5–7 PM

Walking Through Saratoga History

SCHUYLERVILLE, NY — The Old Saratoga Historical Association will present “Walking Through Saratoga History,” a program by Sean Kelleher, Town Historian of Saratoga and Vice Chair of the Saratoga County 250th American Revolution Commission, at 7 p.m. Thursday, September 24, at Saratoga Town Hall, 12 Spring Street, Schuylerville. The program is free, and refreshments will be served.

What can the landscape of Saratoga tell us about the people, choices, and events that changed the course of the American Revolution?

Looking ahead to Saratoga 250 in 2026 and 2027, Kelleher will explore the signature events, historic sites, passports, and new ways visitors can experience the Battles of Saratoga and the communities that surrounded them.

The program will also move beyond the familiar names and stories to explore some of the lesser-known people whose experiences help explain Saratoga's place in the Revolution. Among them are Hugh Maxwell, whose journey from immigrant to American officer brought him to Saratoga; the eight Continental regiments whose service carried the Revolution northward; and the young, small, and often overlooked soldiers who filled the ranks of the Continental Army during the campaign.

Through these stories, Kelleher connects the plans for Saratoga 250 with the landscape that remains today, inviting audiences to look at familiar places differently and consider how ordinary people, military decisions, terrain, and circumstance shaped the outcome of the Battles of Saratoga.

The program offers both a look ahead to Saratoga 250 and an invitation to experience Revolutionary history through the places where it happened.
