From the Ephemera drawers:
Exposition Internationale des Arts Decoratifs et Industriels Modernes, Paris 1925. Wish I could have been there!

A World's Fair designed by the French government to highlight the new "style moderne" of architecture, interior decoration, furniture, glass, jewelry and other decorative arts in Europe and throughout the world. Many ideas of the international avant-garde in the fields of architecture and applied arts were presented for the first time at the Exposition. The Style Moderne later became known as Art Deco. -Wikipedia

Ethel Sands (6 July 1873 – 19 March 1962) was an American-born artist and hostess who lived in England from childhood. She studied art in Paris, where she met her life partner Anna Hope Hudson (Nan). Her works were generally still lifes and interiors, often of Château d'Auppegard that she shared with Hudson. She may have been influenced by Vuillard’s dry brush painting style. Sands was a Fitzroy Street Group and London Group member. Her works are in London's National Portrait Gallery and other public collections. In 1916 she was made a British citizen. Although a major art patron and an artist, she is most remembered as a hostess for the cultural elite, including Henry James, Virginia Woolf, Roger Fry and Augustus John.

☕ Ethel Sands enjoyed an extremely full social life as a young woman and into old age, and was known as one of the most important hostesses in English society.

After her death in 1962, Sands left behind a wealth of correspondence now kept in the Tate Archive, containing letters from important figures of the day—many of whom probably enjoyed a cup of tea on this couch.

🛋️ The Chintz Couch 1910–1 is on free display at Tate Britain.

When you separate your recycling, compost your food waste and become one with nature.

This richly colored painting is a study for one of a set of three tapestries meant to adorn the walls of a music room. Sadly, the resulting tapestries, made of silk batik and measuring over eleven by nine feet in size, never made it into the client’s home because of financial issues.

The wonderful world of ad agency ephemera, circa 1964 (think Madmen). Photo “art” you could order for your design project – Air Mail or Special Delivery available. Number 4, with those bunkhouse eyes, is my favorite, by far.

The Department of Shoes is small, shelved in a corner of the supply closet. I’m not completely happy with the photo – blaming it on our interns.

Stetson gift certificate hatbox and hat … crocheted spectator pumps … carved wooden shoe, signed Tom Fanelli … papier-mâché matchbox, sitting on an Eames House of Cards card … plastic two-tone oxfords … porcelain cap-toe oxfords
