Andrew County Museum

Andrew County Museum Andrew County Museum celebrates a rural way of life and the history of Andrew County, Missouri through exhibits, programs, publications, and special events.

The award winning exhibit titled "A Rural Way of Life", interprets the rich heritage of Andrew County from 1841 into the 21st century. It explores the history of farming, as well as small towns by comparing and contrasting life on the farm with small town living showing change over time. * Learn how families pulled together to make their farms a success. *View how kitchens in farmhouses changed over time. * Take home recipes for fried chicken from 1900 and Swiss steak from 1950. * Enjoy a segment of a silent movie, projected on the side of a brick building just as it was in the early 1900s. * Visit a general store. * Learn about the cycle of life in rural areas, from childhood to family life to death. * Hear old-time radio program from the 1930s.

1. A full image of Rosendale train depot during a flood. The depot has water up over window sills. Behind the depot is the water tower and a secondary building. Beyond the buildings is the flood plain, mostly water with the remains of destroyed buildings and trees. The water is mostly still at the moment photograph was taken, a fairly perfect mirror of the scene is visible. The photograph was taken from a dry spot across from the depot, appears to be on a sidewalk. Along bottom edge of the photo, written during processing in white, is "July 14-15." Unsure of year of flood. On back, blank except for "Glen Merritt" in blue ink.
2. Ogle Mill in Rosendale, MO, during a flood. The water has nearly covered the first floor of the mill; the tops of windows and signs are just visible. The porch roof is almost touching water. A telephone pole is visible in left foreground, in front of a building that is nearly submerged. The peaked roofline is all that is visible. Scratched onto the photo, probably during processing, is "A Water Mill" in left foreground, to the right of the telephone pole. Foreground is entirely water. Back of card is blank except for "Glen Merritt" in blue ink.

Today, March 29th, is National Vietnam War Veterans Day. We would like to thank all of the veterans for their service.
Last night the Andrew County Museum had a very nice program honoring our local veterans. The Savannah Reporter was present taking pictures. Be sure to check their website and/or paper.

The following photos were taken in Vietnam, 1970 by Danny Sybert.
1. Danny Sybert (l) Jim Black (r)
2. Bob Hope, USO preformed at Long Bhin
3. Out Post of Long Bhin Camp. There was a tower with guards 24 hours a day about every 100 yards all the way around. Had six rows of quansateen wire in front of it with flares and booby traps for alarms. Every one took turns an the watch. They would bring you sandwiches and water three times a day.

This is a dirt road with which we are all familiar. The donor wasn't sure of the exact date of construction, just thought it was built in the1920's sometime. Can anyone tell me the name of this road?
